Earlier this week, fashion editors and other industry leaders from all over the world clustered into the heart of Bangkok. They were here to grasp the rare opportunity to have the first look at Louis Vuitton’s much talked-about pre-fall 2019 collection, which was briefly open for a highly exclusive preview at One Bangkok. We had a chance to take a sneak peek at this new collection, and here’s what to expect from Louis Vuitton later this year.
For this collection, Louis Vuitton focuses on an expression of eclectic femininity, selecting a major all-star cast of women who confidently embody this diversity of the feminine character. Among these 17 personalities are American actress Chloe Grace Moretz, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, and Thailand’s own Friend of LV, Urassaya Sperbund.
From the hands of creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, all the pieces together exude a strong air of Autumnal festivity, change, and mystery. The collection is designed for the trickiness of being in between seasons, but it celebrates the ‘in-between’ concept in various ways.
With comforting farmhouse tartans in strict tailoring, and floral pussy-bow blouses teamed up with black leather waist-cinchers, the rustic meets the very urban in Louis Vuitton’s vision of the pre-fall period. The wardrobe offers outfits that can swing between a workday city attitude and a weekend escape to the country.
There are also cosy oversized jumpers, pleated skirts, leathers, and lace that all gather together to help create this joyful clash of genres. These unusual but not unappealing combinations create looks that are sophisticated and spontaneous at the same time.
A traditional American aesthetic of rural culture gets a new sense of exoticness when presented by this French luxury label. There are none of the clichés that could easily happen when designing rustic styles as part of an autumnal theme. Despite aligning with a season of simple living, the looks in this collection are far from basic.
Part of the exclusive presentation was styled as a anthropological museum exhibition, including a display of Virgil Abloh’s modern streetwear set in contrast with green forestry and countryside scenery.
The mix-and-match energy of this pre-fall collection makes it an exciting and personal way to celebrate the changing of the seasons.
Louis Vuitton’s pre-fall 2019 collection is a bag of all-sorts. Miscellaneous, unexpected, and fun, the looks burst with rich, warm colours and dynamic prints of autumn harvests. The collection will be available in Thailand between June and July starting with jewellery and womenswear, and carrying forward with perfume and colognes, then menswear.
