You may not have heard of him and he may not be a big name in the fashion industry just yet, but Walter Chiapponi is setting out to make waves.
Officially announced just last week, the Milanese designer has stepped up as the new creative director at Tod’s, taking reigns of the Tod’s men’s and women’s collections. The brand’s Autumn/Winter 2020 release will see Chiapponi’s fresh debut for the Italian luxury leather goods label.
“[He] is a talented Italian creative, who knows and is able to combine Tod’s Italian lifestyle with a touch of modernity.”
Chiapponi brings with him to Tod’s an extensive resume, actually working in the industry since the 1990s, with stints covering Valentino, Gucci, Miu Miu, and Bottega Veneta. It goes without saying, then, that the designer is steeped in the thick of Italian style and luxury.
“Walter Chiapponi is a talented Italian creative, who knows and is able to combine Tod’s Italian lifestyle with a touch of modernity, without ever losing sight of the high quality and craftsmanship that represents the brand’s DNA. I welcome him and wish him well in his new role,” declared Diego Della Valle, president of Tod’s Group.
Chiapponi’s first collection will be available in Tod’s boutiques worldwide next fall.
