Weekend Muse: are socks the new shoes?

There’s a meme on the interwebs that jokes about our shoes maybe thinking we’re not alive anymore because we haven’t used them in a while.

And as morbid as that may sound, it’s actually a good thing in many ways. As we’re trying to flatten the curve and practice social distancing, in a weird turn of events, we’re going out a lot less, and thereby using our shoes a lot less.

Many of us are roaming around home barefoot, and whilst this offers a certain level of comfort, it has also given rise to spotlight another accessory for those precious trotters: socks.

Granted, we live in Bangkok, and the heat doesn’t call for wool socks with extra thermals. But there’s no denying that snazzy socks have been making their circles about town for a while. Especially men with style have been getting playful with their socks for some time now, flashing a vibrant number between dress shoes and a cropped trouser hem.

Even at home though, there’s a comfort in wearing socks around the house. They’re like sweatpants for your feet. They keep you warm and snuggly (not to brave the temperatures outside, but rather a wintery AC you keep running), and can also add a fun, personal element to your look.

In a very special staying-indoors round-up, we sought out on finding the best socks for each homely scenario. Here we go. Take off your shoes, make yourself at home.
