Calling all November babies: it’s officially topaz season.
As we swiftly spring into the chillier weather, November calls in for an early celebration of the much-awaited festive season. According to the American Gem Society, November boasts two beautiful birthstones to choose from: topaz and citrine. Whilst it’s challenging to choose between the two, the rich history of topaz and the stone’s calming, healing energy makes it irresistible.
Proudly a lustrous and brilliant gemstone, topaz comes with the most desirable vivacious tones you can imagine. Throughout history, all yellow stones were thought to be topaz but little was it known that the stunning stone can bear various hues. The most valuable hues range from brownish orange to an exclusive yellow hue, some even featuring a vibrant orange hue with a light pink undertone called ‘imperial topaz’. Whilst blue topaz may be the most abundant one in the market, we rarely see a natural one.
Deriving from the ancient Greek name for St.John’s Island in the Red Sea, Topazios, topaz is often associated to be the cure of magic spells as well as a symbol of strength and intelligence. Whilst pure topaz is monochrome, they can be tinted by impurities to capture any colour of the rainbow.
Topaz is found everywhere from Brazil, India, Sri Lanka, to Australia, Germany, and many more. Right here, right now, we’ve curated a list of ways you could style the November birthstone, from sophisticated to more fun designs to rock this season.
