Normally when we think of jewellery, hip hop and streetwear aren’t the first images that spring to mind.
Nevertheless, jewellery has played an integral part in shaping the culture of both these entities, and the greatest name in the game is likely to be his: Ben Baller.
He is one of the OGs when it comes to customised jewellery pieces. However, he announced his retirement from his brand, If & Co. back in October 2016. This news dismayed of his many loyal customers, most of whom are big names in the hip-hop industry. However, he has since come back into the fray with the help of various celebrity friends like A$AP Rocky, Lil Uzi Vert, and Drake to name a few.
Now, Baller keeps his list of clientele extremely exclusive, limiting himself to one custom jewellery job a month. This also includes a US$75,000 minimum, and a non-refundable US%50,000 deposit. However, with his experience and legacy all but assured, many in the industry would still flock to Baller at a moment’s notice.
As both streetwear and hip-hop intertwines, Baller has included more modern pieces into his portfolio. This includes collaborating with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and his famed smiling flowers motif. While there are many other famous custom jewellery makers, none comes close to Ben Baller.
