Watch lovers are a peculiar breed. They know their timepieces down to a tee, as well as the mechanics of movements, the tickings of intricate tourbillons, and the importance of case and caliber. They know their horology like contemporary history, and the worlds in which they thrive are no longer constricted to Basel and SIHH, but are housed much closer within the digital realms of a smartphone — on Instagram.

In recent years, the social media platform has seen a wild increase of watch lovers taking to Instagram to share, show off, and real-time test their favourite collector’s items and hot-off-Hodinkee novelties. These individuals have risen to true Insta-fame over time, some amassing over a million followers, all keen to see unique collections or unique ways of sporting and styling their favourite pieces. A fresh and fun perspective different to that of catalogues or in-store experiences, it’s an intriguing way to witness luxury watches out in the wild. And with hashtags like #WOMW (watch on my wrist) and #WatchNerds bringing in over a million posts each, there’s no sign of this stopping anytime soon.

@watchanish

With a whopping 1.7 million followers and counting, Anish Bhatt of @watchanish is the ultimate online luxury watch influencer. The London-based Instagrammer rose to fast fame on the platform, showcasing some of the world’s most luxurious timepieces, and how to pair these with an equally flamboyant lifestyle. From here, the incredible purveyor of cool also started publishing his own magazine, collaborating with major brands, and growing his empire by selling fashion accessories that, of course, perfectly match the watches he displays. Anish Bhatt proves through his Instagram account that a luxury timepiece is not just a glittering means to tell time, but a lifestyle, too.

@benclymer

If there’s an online one-stop destination all watch lovers deem their holy horological grail, it’s very likely to be Hodinkee, so it comes as no surprise that its founder @benclymer boasts an intriguing insight into the mechanics of his mind and his passions, ranging from vintage cars over to classic timepieces. His shots feature a uniform style, portraying his watch of the day, along with shirt, sweater, suit jacket, and shoes to match. It’s a great guide on how to dress sophisticated and smart casual in the company of a great timepiece, from someone who definitely knows what he’s talking about.

3
@watch_fashionista

Whilst the Instagram watch lover community consists largely of male Instagrammers and men’s watches, @watch_fashionista levels the playing field through a selection of women’s watches, paired with complementary bejewelled wrist candy and designer handbags. The account features a lot of inspiration for how to match a watch to your favourite bracelets and bangles, and how to fabulously stack them together. Whether it’s a fierce Bulgari Serpenti bracelet with a ruby-red Roger Dubuis, or Cartier’s Juste un Clou paired with a gold Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and a neon pink Chanel flap bag, @watch_fashionista is a must-follow for the stylish woman who craves the know-how of how to rock a luxury watch in the most extravagant ways.

4
@wristenthusiast

The @wristenthusiast is an Instagram account run by an anonymous New York lawyer and entrepreneur who is exactly that: a wrist (read: watch) enthusiast. Whilst the account features many impressive and contemporary models he is currently eyeing, what sets the @wristenthusiast apart is his historical angle. The proud purveyor of the ‘original historical watch posts’, the Instagrammer explores horological history through famous figures and the watches they wore. From Albert Einstein and his Longines, over to Ernest Hemingway’s Rolex or even Muhammad Ali’s Cartier Tank, the posts speak greatly to the personality of a watch, but also to that of the one who bears it.

5
@pbandwatches

Here’s one for the foodies. Run by a Canadian photographer, @pbandwatches puts a sneaky spin on the presentation of luxury watches, creating vivid flat lays that feature the pieces in the most charming scenarios. Giving the watches a life of their own, the Instagrammer has captured everything from a Patek Philippe in a bowl of cereal, to a Chopard timepiece on a platter of Mediterranean tapas, and Breitling’s Navitimer 8 on a bed of gummy bears. Playful and cleverly executed, follow for the timepieces, and hit ‘like’ for the quick-witted creativity.

6
@wristi

As its name suggests, @wristi is a light-hearted luxury watch lover’s account, featuring some seriously cool pieces portrayed on colourful wrist shots. The contrast is peculiar, showing the Texas-based self-proclaimed ‘Mr. Wristi’ and his watches in everyday situations — from a vintage Rolex in his dentist chair, to drinks with his dog, and an IWC amidst a bubble bath in the tub. Capturing the “time of his life”, Mr. Wristi’s account tells the story of a man and his watches — from yacht brunches to pool parties — with his backgrounds becoming almost as intriguing as the timepieces in the foreground.

7
@watchfred

For those who know that old is gold, @watchfred is your go-to. The Instagrammer features mainly vintage watches, honing the #VintageChronograph hashtag like no other. Best recognised by a blue stripe shirt sleeve peeking through some of his wrist shots, the account features largely chronograph and dress watches, and consists of posts that sit like a true treasure box for all lovers of watches that bear a history and an old world charm.

8
@hautetime

Whilst @hautetime is an online watch magazine and not a private individual, its Instagram account is gaining fast likes due to its exclusive focus on watches that lie above the USD 10,000 price line only. Featuring rare and truly eye-catching watches you won’t find anywhere else, it’s a must-follow account for anyone looking to explore pieces for their next special investment (or at least, some incredible inspiration to dream thereof). Most intriguingly, the posts also include the price of many of the timepieces featured, making it a great source for bookmarking in your current wish list.

9
@horobromance

As the name already reveals, @horobromance follows the life of Singaporean Instagrammer Vincent Ng and his luxury watch collection, along with that of his ‘bros’. The posts feature a series of shots that reveal a true bromance between the friend group, displaying their beloved timepieces over beers at Michelin-starred dinners, or while driving the latest supercars around the city. Whilst the wearers of the watches are never revealed, there’s almost something Entourage-like about this account. Unlike many of the other Instagrammers on this list, @horobromance portrays not how to tie in your watches with your look, but rather how to sport them together with your closest friends, too.

10
@bobswatches

There’s watch lovers, and then there’s Rolex watch lovers. And for the latter, @bobswatches is a must-follow. The account features the Swiss-made watches exclusively, with multiple models posted daily. Doubling as a platform where viewers can also buy or sell Rolex watches, the account largely targets a specific fan base, and is ideal for all those who love opening Instagram to start their mornings with a fresh ‘Rolex of the day’. Regardless of whether you’re hardcore horology or an amateur admirer, like all others on our list, the Instagram account ensures you always pass the time in extravagant style the next time you scroll through your feed.
