The Patek Philippe Calatrava has long been a beloved piece in the Swiss watchmaker’s collection. Their first release for 2020, the latest rendition provides much to admire. The Calatrava is the latest addition in conjunction with the launch of the brand’s latest manufacture in Geneva, Switzerland.
This is due to its tradition of launching limited-edition commemorative timepieces to accompany key events in its corporate history. The all-new Ref. 6007A-001 Calatrava immediately stands out due to its case and broad cambered bezel, which is made out of polished stainless steel. This is a piece of rare material in Patek’s collections that is highly sought after by both aficionados and connoisseurs.
Its case measures at 40mm and only 9.07mm thick, making it an ideal pair to wear on a daily basis. The blue dial features a smaller centre circle with a “carbon”-style cross-hatch texture, giving it a unique aesthetic that you probably won’t find anywhere else. At the heart of the timepiece is the in-house calibre 324 SC while on the caseback is a sapphire-crystal case that features a Calatrava cross alongside the inscription, “New Manufacture 2019”.
Roman numeral indices take up the circumference of the dial, coated with SuperLuminova for better readability in poor lighting conditions. On the 3 o’clock, you’ll find a day-date window. There will only be 1,000 of the Patek Philippe Calatrava made.
The construction for its latest manufacture began back in 2015 and consists of 10 floors in total, six above ground and four below. This CHF 600 million (approx. THB 19,544,828,940) headquarters for Patek Phillipe will house the entire watchmaking process, ranging from basic mechanics to movement assembly as well as in-house finishing. There is also a restaurant on the top floor that can fit up to 880 guests as well as an underground garage that holds up to 700 vehicles.
