Santiburi — meaning ‘peaceful town’ in Thai — is a luxury retreat that blends utmost privacy with serenity. Nestled on Koh Samui’s pristine north shore and set within a garden oasis, Santiburi Koh Samui offers the perfect island escape for city dwellers. While the property is designed with unique touches of Thai culture, boasting 77 Thai-style villas and suites reminiscent of an ancient Sukothai village, the property has recently unveiled its exciting new 19 Grand Reserve Pool Villas, joining the Grand Deluxe Pool Villas and Deluxe Beachfront Villas to create a modern all-in-one destination for couples and families who seek for exclusivity.
The resort is situated right along what is considered one of the island’s most sought-after beaches. Featuring a wide crescent of champagne sands, Mae Nam beach on the northern coastline of Koh Samui creates a picturesque backdrop for Santiburi Koh Samui, with warm, soothing turquoise waters perfect for swimming, and excellent weather conditions for sailing and windsurfing.
Set among evergreen trees and native blooms, each 250-sqm Grand Reserve Pool Villa features contemporary interior decor and stylish designer furnishings in neutral tones, creating a modern contrast to the warm colours and wooden furniture that epitomise Santiburi Koh Samui’s signature pool villas.
Only steps away from the powdery sands, the Grand Reserve Pool Villas offer understated barefoot luxury within their own walled tropical gardens. Here, you can slip into comfortable bathrobes and sleep peacefully in the villa’s soundproofed master bedroom, which comes fitted with a plush king-size bed, fluffy sheets, oodles of pillows and a direct entrance to the spacious outdoor deck and turquoise pool — all contributing to a feeling of unchecked luxury. Our favourite part of the villa is the spacious en-suite bathroom, which features sleek and minimalistic interiors, a private tub and a rain shower replete with Santiburi-branded bathroom amenities.
Designed to feel like a home away from home, the brand new villas are outfitted with modern technology and contemporary comforts, including a surround sound system in the living room and custom lighting schemes, which you can change depending on your mood.
Santiburi Koh Samui is home to Sala Thai, a traditional Thai restaurant that focuses on authentic Thai cuisine based on age-old recipes using fresh locally sourced ingredients. Don’t miss out on the sharing menu, which is a great way to sample a wide range of classic Thai flavours. While the fine dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows offers a lively setting, we prefer the outdoor terrace with a tranquil garden view.
Another highlight at Santiburi Koh Samui is The Beach House, an oceanside restaurant offering an eclectic menu of delicious delights sourced from the land and sea. Combining its elegant palm-shaded surroundings with the calming sounds of lapping waves, the The Beach House exudes a laid back ambience and makes for an ideal all-day dining venue, serving up the healthy ‘kick-start breakfast’, a succulent choice of surf and turf options throughout the day and themed gourmet dinner buffet spreads featuring the finest produce from around the world.
Health and wellness
The Santiburi Spa is a must-try if you’re looking to take your relaxation to the next level. An oasis surrounded by exotic gardens, the spa is a separate building located next to the main lobby, creating a sanctuary so you can find your peace of mind. Aside from traditional and therapeutic massages, the spa also focuses on indulgent body treatments and facials with premium spa products.
We opted for a 60-minute Deep Cleansing Facial, which is designed to deep cleanse and rejuvenate the skin. After a pampering facial treatment using a mix of spa products from Jurlique, dermalogica and Le Club des Professionnels, our skin emerged clean and hydrated, though the results weren’t astounding compared to other specialist spa facials we’ve tried, which could be improved with an exclusive professional spa product line.
For those who like keeping fit while on the go, the hotel offers a fully equipped gym and a 50-metre freeform swimming pool. You can also stretch your muscles at a yoga class, perfect your forehand on the floodlit tennis court, or train Muay Thai at the Sports Centre. Eco-friendly water sports such as kayaking, paddle boarding and windsurfing are complimentary for hotel guests. Also worth-visiting is the world-class Santiburi Samui Country Club featuring an 18-hole championship golf course — one of the venues for the PGA’s Asian Tour.
One thing that deserves a mention is the hotel’s highly professional and attentive staff, who would go above and beyond to ensure that you have everything you need to unwind, serving up complimentary ice-cream and offering suncream to those by the pool or on the beach.
As one of the first luxury resorts on the island, Santiburi Koh Samui offers all the comforts and service expected of any five-star hotel — with a more hands-on and personal approach. The new Grand Reserve Pool Villas make a great addition to its top-level room categories, reviving the property with a fresh, modern touch that coexists perfectly with its signature Thai-style villas. Whether you’re looking to relax on the beach with a fresh coconut in hand or stay active with the on-site activities on offer, there’s something for everyone at Santiburi Koh Samui.
