Since travelling domestically has become the norm du jour, it feels as if there is no place hotter than Hua Hin.
The beachside town is offering much for Bangkokians seeking an escape from the madness of the city, what with just a 2.5-hour car ride to get there, and plenty of sprawling beachscape to wipe out any and all worries.
The timing couldn’t be better suited, either, given that Hua Hin used to be known as quite the sleepy town mere years ago. Rising as a destination that is all the while still wonderful for naps and long days in bed, the beachside town now offers plenty in terms of five-star accommodations and world-class dining, activity, and excitement, too.
Beyond being the more elegant alternative to a wild weekend in Pattaya, Hua Hin has awakened as a destination in its own right. Here, we’ve put together a list of our favourite boutique hotels of the minute, with a little something for every kind of traveller. Be you a beachside bum or a design-loving ‘grammer, consider this your next best excuse for your next best escape.

The Peri Hotel
The newest opening on our list is The Peri Hotel. Once known as the Escape Hotel, the heritage seaside resort has gotten a vibrant revamp this season, launching under the parent company of The Standard Hotels together with Sansiri. The new Hua Hin hotel was inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s ‘Old Man and the Sea’, and boasts a lot of that nautical flair in its decor. Between wooden floorboards and fisherman design elements, it’s a colourful place to get together friends and family, and enjoy a hearty Thai meal together. The ‘Chow Mong’ mess hall restaurant provides the ideal space for this, with signature dishes that include crab congee, a seafood steamboat, and Thai-style fermented spicy crab, to name a few. Delish.

Putahracsa Hua Hin
There’s something charmingly (yet still contemporarily) rustic about Putahracsa Hua Hin, definitely earning it top marks for making you feel like you’ve escaped the city. Located on the beach, the small boutique hotel features 67 rooms and suites, and two in-house restaurants. Featuring a natural design ethos, Putahracsa manages to combine a tranquil sense of Hua Hin heritage with the intimate ambience of a private beachside residence. Between breakfast at the boulangerie to dinner on the beach after a massage at the spa, it’s the ultimate place to really just chill in style.

V Villas Hua Hin
Though not strictly or traditionally a boutique hotel, the MGallery collection has long been known for its unique properties, and the V Villas are no different. An ideal getaway for a group of friends or larger families, villas here are comprised of up to three bedrooms and each boast private pools and 24-hour butler service. Large terraces and high ceilings give the private getaway a great sense of modern opulence, with ample space and surrounding. Beyond in-villa living, enjoy dinner at the Villazzo Restaurant or a special treatment at the V Spa, bringing together many of the amenities of a resort with the exclusivity of a private seaside home.

For those seeking a spa weekend and a wholesome escape for mind, body, and soul, there’s no place quite like The Barai. The award-winning destination spa features only an exclusive eight residential spa suites, set on a large beachfront property adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Hua Hin. Embark on a journey of holistic wellness with custom-designed treatments and exotic treatment rooms, all set within the premises of a truly stunning property. Incredibly peaceful and extremely memorable, with a dreamy design unlike many.

Part of the Thai Cape Hotel Collection, Cape Nidra sits along Hua Hin’s beach as a larger and contemporary boutique hotel. Many room types boast their own private pools for midday dips, whilst the facilities include a gym and spa, and a moonlight cinema by night. We love the day beds by the pool that overlook the beach, as well as the hotel’s close proximity to exploring the town’s street markets, restaurants, and nightlife, too.

Here’s one for minimalist design lovers. Hotel Bocage prides itself on three key principles: simplicity, authenticity, and un-compromised experience. And though the small boutique hotel definitely takes a very millennial approach to this in terms of colour palette and design, this philosophy does shine through. Designed by acclaimed Thai architect Duangrit Bunnag, the property is comprised of sleek open plan rooms and suits with large beds and sofas and freestanding tubs. Everything feels very contemporary in layout and hue. Very much something Kanye would approve of — if he ever were to visit Hua Hin.
Hotel Bocage, 13/14 Seenspace Building, Hua Hin Soi 35, +66 91 712 8822.
