As we drove to the end of a beachside cul-de-sac, there stood the resort, which is what we are now referring to as one of the coolest sun-kissed havens of Hua Hin.
Formerly the Asara Villa & Suite, the nature-immersed property has now been taken over by Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa Hua Hin. As most of us might be well-familiar with, the name Mövenpick often gleams and glints in our minds when speaking of five-starred, eco-friendly hotels. The new branch of the Swiss-helmed hotel group that brings with it over 40 years worth of experience in hospitality has finally spread its wings to Prachuap Khiri Khan in the Gulf of Thailand, living up to the hotel’s positioning as being an ecologically sustainable property featuring full-on lush greenery, tropical plants and a natural on-site pond.
Once stepped into, we found the venue merges a forest-canopy setting with authentic Thai decor supported by modern and comforting facilities, the hotel’s very own way of highlighting the bond between nature and luxury. The resort boasts 96 chic yet classy suites, pool and beachfront villas with ample living space from 120 up to 400 square metres — making it a perfect destination for a family looking for a home away from home. Easily reached from Bangkok and detached enough from the hectic parts of Hua Hin, those who are after a secluded vacation break from the city or an evergreen hideaway to escape Bangkok’s air pollution will delight in knowing that Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa Hua Hin is the place to go to.
Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa is set amidst lush gardens and majestic palm trees on the outskirts of Hua Hin city — an approximately two-hour drive from Bangkok. Recognised as the royal retreat of the Gulf of Thailand, Hua Hin is also one of Thailand’s best laid-back vacation spots sought after by both Thais and foreigners. The resort’s location — despite being a bit far from the city – is also enveloped in eco preserves like seafront tropical trees and the natural on-site pond that makes the place feel serene, peaceful and secluded.
Laced with 96 suites and villas, which come in 6 different types, Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa’s rooms are all appointed with Thai aesthetic decor and modern upscale facilities. With ample space in each of the rooms, a stay here creates a sense of privacy and seclusion and you’ll feel like your staying in a more upscale version of your own home, the only difference being that it’s hugged by woodlands and surrounded by a secluded white sand beach.
We had the privilege to stay in the One Bedroom Pool Villa, which is sized at 150 square meters and features a private swimming pool and lavish yard of palm trees in the back. The space includes a luxurious walk-in closet, a small lounge area, and a contemporary Thai-designed bedroom with a sliding glass door that gives direct access to the pool. The space is also designed with wood elements throughout and decorated with Thai-style wood furnishings and antiques.
What we absolutely adored was the outdoor bathing area set amidst the landscape — which enabled us to fully immerse ourselves into the natural grooves of Hua Hin, which is exactly what we were hoping.
Although the brand was officially founded in 1973, the name itself has a heritage of food and beverage excellence that stretches as far back as the 1940s. Here, the resort’s guests can get pampered at any one of the hotel’s restaurants and bars. Kampu Restaurant offers a sumptuous international breakfast buffet by day and traditional Thai and French fare by night. Menu highlights here include the Lucora Italian Sausage, Salmon Mi-Cult and Heirloom Beets, Fettucini Bolognese and – most importantly – Mövenpick’s signature Chicken Zurich-Style followed by an assortment of house-made ice cream.
At the same time, Baan Dum Beachfront also serves authentic Thai seafood dishes — think full-on spicy curry and stir-fry — in an al fresco setting right by the beach. Those hankering for a romantic dinner date, head on over there for a meal with the sunset. And if you’re up for a sundowner or just an aperitif, the beachfront Ocean Bar is there to cater to your tastes through their impressive selection of spirits and wine.
Also, take our advice and stay in for the afternoon treats during “Chocolate Hour” which runs from 3-4pm, the hotel’s one-of-a-kind highlight that happens across its properties worldwide. At this hour, guests can expect to indulge fully in delights like the chocolate fountain, which come with array of cookies, marshmallows and fruit to create state-of the-art fondue memories.
Wellness & Spa
Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa boasts its in-house, purpose-built spa villa, Asara Spa, with the health-centric sanctuary providing a variety of options including massages, facials wraps and body scrub treatments. If you’re looking for a way to detoxify your skin and reduce muscular pain, Asara Spa’s signature Himalayan Salt Thermal Therapy is the perfect body massage that uses cold salt crystal stones to smoothen your skin, reduce body pain as well as de-stress your mind.
For fitness buffs, the resort provides a fitness room equipped with exercise machines so you can stay fit and firm even during your five-star stay.
Leisure options are also available outside of their spacious, well-equipped pool villa. Here, guests often stay in and spend most of their day in the resort, bathing in the sunlight, swimming in the two massive pools during the day and into the night, relaxing at the bar and indulging in delicious treats at the restaurants — all of which we did. Other than that, holiday-makers can also discover other fun-filled yet relaxing activities whilst the kids can enjoy the Kids Club and their own section of the swimming pool.
The nature-immersed and seafront escape that is Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa Hua Hin stands tall to impress guests with its attentive and unpretentious service. With a bounty of activities to choose from and a luxury home-away-from-home feel, the venue is a family-friendly resort that offers something for everyone, all in the comfort and care of top-notch hospitality.
