It’s time for that ‘new year, new me’ phase again. New resolutions are usually made or some may even be brought forward from 2018. While many tend to draft up new resolutions related to health, fitness and lifestyle, it is important to care for your skin as well. That’s why we’re including the goal of having brighter and healthier skin into the list too.

Before you start dreading on yet another long list of to-dos to add, just keep on reading and you’ll see that they are actually easy to follow. In no time, you’ll be on your way to better skin.

Do not ever skip sunscreen

Our cabinets may be filled with the most innovative and fancy skincare products but there’s one step that many tend to skip and that is the sunscreen. Sun exposure causes wrinkles and pigmentation and just by adding on that one single layer prevents all of that. If you are one of many who avoids sunscreen because of its texture and afraid of leaving a white cast on your skin, it’s 2019 — sunscreens are way more advanced now.

Double cleanse, even in the morning

As we all know, double cleansing ensures that everything — dirt, dust, sunscreen and makeup, is completely removed from the skin. But double cleansing is not only meant to be done during the evening or when you have a full face of makeup on — you should do it in the morning as well. That’s because dirt and impurities from the air or on your pillowcases may cling onto your skin while you sleep. Just add this step to your morning regimen and it will promote healthier skin.

Stop touching your face

This is one that we are all guilty of. We do and touch everything with our hands and sometimes we subconsciously touch our face with all the bacteria still lingering on our fingertips — this is a huge no-no. Same goes to picking acne and spots — which will only worsen the condition and possibly create scars. All you need to do is resist.

Clean your brushes more often

Do you know that people tend to wash their brushes once every few months? — that is bad. Washing your brushes is indeed a tedious task but trust us, you won’t want the bacteria to linger and keep on growing on your brushes — and imagine applying that on your skin. Make it a monthly ritual or even weekly if you can.

Mask, mask, mask

While we all wish we have the luxury of time and money to go for a facial every week, unfortunately, we don’t. Masks are there for a reason and it’s time to put them to good use. Think of applying a mask as a way to give your skin a treat. Apply once every two or three days is the norm, but you can be generous with it and go all out like how K-beauty taught us — a sheet mask a day.
