The glorious, glowy world of legendary makeup guru Charlotte Tilbury has just arrived in Hong Kong, with brand new beauty counters at Lane Crawford Harbour City and IFC Mall just opened last week. Ahead of the launch, we spoke to Tilbury about her journey from launching her small eponymous brand in 2013 to reaching her current worldwide fame, and her favourite products from the signature Magic Cream to her newest Hollywood Flawless Filter highlight. While also available to order online, nothing beats an in-store experience. Before you head to Charlotte Tilbury counters, make sure you read up on our five essentials to cop below.
During Charlotte Tilbury’s earlier days as a makeup artist, her personal blend of skin-saving ingredients was almost likened to a black market drug by her model and celebrity clients backstage, hence it was dubbed the ‘Magic Cream.’ This product (HK$750/50ml) propelled Charlotte to stardom, and is a multitasker packed with wrinkle-tackling peptides, plumping hyaluronic acid and wild pansy extracts, super-hydrating rosehip, camellia oils and anti-oxidising vitamin E.
There are numerous ways to achieve CT’s proprietary glow — whether through brightening primers, dewy foundations or shimmery highlighters. We like the newest product to the family, the Hollywood Flawless Filter (HK$350): available across seven shades, this luminescent glow can be layered under or over makeup to fake the look of an Instagram filter. Imperfections are blurred, skin looks smooth, youthful and brimming with lustrous, healthy shine.
Having the right eyeliner in Hong Kong is essential — a bad one will melt instantly once you step out into the humidity, especially in the summer when you have to combat both sweat and extra natural oils from your eyelid. We tried, tested and loved Charlotte Tilbury’s Feline Flick (HK$250): a super sharp shodo brush pen with nicely stiff bristles making it extra easy to draw smooth lines. The ink itself is matte, and sets so quick you won’t even need to blink before it’s ready.
Charlotte Tilbury herself is known for her sultry smokey eyes, and the Luxury eye palette (HK$440) does the trick beautifully, featuring eyeshadow quads in a whole suite of colours. While the makeup guru likes the shades in Dolce Vita, we’ve been reaching for Vintage Vamp the most, with its coppery, burgundy tones and a peach-toned gold glitter that gives a little something extra compared to your default brown smokey eye.
As seen in CT’s look for the recent Temperley London SS18 runway show, a universally flattering red hot vermillion is the lip colour du jour. Also celebrating the momentous launch in Hong Kong, Charlotte has devised a new look for the Asian market, “The Radiant Beauty,” featuring bright doe eyes and a rockin’ red lip, thanks to this very shade of Hot Lips lipstick in Tell Laura (HK$270).
