Achieve peak summer glow with Chanel’s latest Les Beiges collection

Achieve a natural summer glow with Chanel’s latest Les Beiges foundation must-haves.

When it comes to Hong Kong summer, our otherwise flawless makeup looks are most endangered by the elements: there’s the heaviness of humidity weighing on our skin, for one; the rainy thunderstorms of typhoon season, and of course, the sweat beads rolling down everybody’s foreheads the moment they step outside threatening to dampen our shine. To combat these frustrations, only the most innovative, naturally enhancing looks will do.

Launched in 2013, Chanel’s Les Beiges collection is the label to reach for particularly when we’re at the height of summer. Championing an elegant, nude complexion, the range aims to deliver a light, ‘no makeup’ radiance that’s typically offered by great skin and a healthy, inward glow. Ever-expanding as new scientific innovations in texture and hydration come into play, and with a wide palette of shades and items catering to the skin, eyes and lips, it’s now become synonymous with the desire to enhance the natural beauty of all women.

To achieve that healthy summer glow, the lightest touch for the complexion is ideal: You don’t want your foundation to pool into the crevices of the face, nor do you want shadows, liners and blushes to smudge and melt due to the balmy weather. At the same time, proper sun protection, hydration and skin nourishment is key to create a smooth canvas to apply makeup in the neatest possible way.

With all these needs in mind, take a look below at the top items from Chanel’s Les Beiges collection below that will help you achieve a gorgeous summer glow:

The first step to creating an effortless glow is of course to neutralise any imperfections, blemishes and tired dark circles from the skin. Used as a primer, this sheer tinted moisturiser is like a retouch filter on the skin — blurring out imperfections and imparting a natural lustrous glow. Its silky, featherlight texture melts into the skin as soon as it’s applied, making it ideal for the summer months when you don’t want a thick layer of foundation, but can also be layered underneath your favourite products to give a smooth satin finish if you so wished. With SPF 30/PA++, this can even be used as a retouching veil for the complexion if you’re just popping out for a quick errand.

The first Chanel foundation that adopts microfluidic technology, the Water-Fresh Tint was launched in 2019 and considered to be an entirely different product category altogether, and as makeup and colour director Lucia Pica states, it’s “worn like a subtle and undetectable second skin.” The formula was a collaboration with French company Capsum, who pioneered the microfluidic technology used in Chanel’s innovative patented product. With beads of pigment enveloped in a light, hydrating serum filled with nourishing actives, each application — done with an accompanying brush to gently buff into the skin — feels like a revitalising burst of fresh water onto the skin. Melting invisibly into the skin, it imparts an incomparable nude-skin effect for a luminous result.

Adding onto the airiness of the whole look, Les Beiges’ 2020 iteration builds on Chanel’s expansive cushion foundation offering with a gel-finish compact. Comprising 56 percent water, the refreshing formula is perfect to tap onto the skin as-is for a light glowy complexion, or to schlep around with you in your purse to reapply as needed. This is especially to replenish your sun protection throughout the day — the cushion’s formula features SPF 25 and kalanchoe extract, both shielding your skin from damage caused by the sun, free radicals and daily oxidative stress. Grab the limited edition design this summer, which, unlike the original, features a more maritime-inspired motif in the two interlocked ‘C’s.

Featuring five shades of sheer, rosy nudes, the latest Les Beiges eye palette will accentuate any skin and eye colour with ease. The wearable shades are versatile on their own or used together to create anything from minimal, light shimmery looks — just to accentuate the eye’s contours — to intense smokey eyes for romantic nights by the beach. Even more, the fine shimmer can also be used as a highlighter for the brow bone, inner eye corner or even swiped along the cheekbones.

The Healthy Glow Lip Balm is ideal for days when you aren’t quite feeling the need to show off a Rouge Coco smile, but still want to add some moisture and a healthy rosy tint to your lips. Enriched in vitamin E and moringa butter, the formula does just that, instantly smoothing and softening lips while imparting a subtle hue that adapts to all skin tones.

Continuing Les Beiges Summer of Glow’s seaside theme — harking back to Coco Chanel’s vacations spent in the French Riviera — the collection also features healthy, classic hues extending all the way to the fingertips. Le Vernis features two new shades, one in a luscious, retro red in ‘Sailor’ — perfect to match with your poolside proclivities, whilst ‘Cruise,’ an energetic shade of vermillion, will also go well with your sun-kissed glow.
