If there’s anyone who can turn something as generic as a lipstick into an objet d’art, it’s Hermès.
Following the success of the 24-shade Rouge Hermès launch earlier this year and a three-shade limited edition Spring-Summer 2020 Totem collection after, the Maison is saddling up for cooler months, and what better way to do so than with another beautiful trio of limited edition lippies.
Inspired by everything that’s beautiful during the transition from autumn to winter — think long dark nights, the glimmer of dawn, and the juxtaposition between the dry cold outside and the cosy warmth within — the three shades are sensual variations of pink clearly made for the seasonal change.
The Rose Ombré, for example, is a warm shade of rose wood and waxed palisander with a delicate satin sheen, perfect for those who are confident enough to make a statement even with such a discreet and muted shade. The Rose Pommette, on the other hand, is a joyful and vibrant pink with the same satin finish that recalls a wild rose in bright sunlight. To end the day, Rose Nuit offers a deep, soft, and muted shade of pink in a luxurious matte finish, with a subtle coolness that takes reference from a starry sky.
Within every Hermès product lies a poetic tale, and these lipsticks go beyond reflecting the impending winter to echoing the works of fine artists too. Housed in lacquered cases that recall the enduring beauty of art by modernism pioneer Charles Sheeler, realist artist John Register, and leading French modernist Jean Hélion, the cases make quite an impression beyond the vanity table. The lipstick tubes are also sustainable, seeing as they’re refillable with other shades once these run out.
The Autumn-Winter 2020 Rouge Hermès Limited Edition collection will be available from 21 September at HK$620 each from Hermès.
