Here’s a full lineup for the best music festivals in Asia (and beyond)

There’s only (gulp) four more months remaining in the year, meaning there are just 16 weekends to close out 2017 with a bang. Whether you’re scouring for reasons to travel in the remainder of the year, love a good debaucherous rave with friends, or just want to enjoy your favourite artists and performers outdoors; what better way to fill your calendar than with the best international music festivals taking place around the world?

From dance music extravaganzas to sumptuous jazz fests, plan your year ahead with our definitive list of the best upcoming music festivals in 2017 and returning favourites in 2018.

Music Festivals in Asia

August

  • Endless Summer Hong Kong International Reggae Ska Festival (26 August, Hong Kong)
    Hong Kong’s premier reggae and ska festival features local and regional talent, plus ‘the original rude boy’ Neville Staple. Lineup includes: Kingston Rudieska, SensiLion, Neville Staple with The Red Stripes
  • ReFuel Automotive Entertainment Festival (26 August, Hong Kong)
    Hypercars, drifting performances, and an EDM fest. Lineup includes: Dash Berlin, Dannic, Ruby Rose
  • STORM Guangzhou (26–27 August, Guangzhou, China)
    It’s the largest EDM party in China. Guangzhou is the second pit stop this year after a roaring Chengdu round earlier in the month. Past lineup: Far East Movement, Showtek, Mike Bond, Curbi

September

  • Ultra Beach Bali (14–15 September, Bali, Indonesia)
    An Ultra party, but with a pool right in front of the DJ deck. Be in it. Lineup includes: Hardwell, Kygo, Zedd
  • Singapore Grand Prix (15–17 September, Singapore)
    After watching the F1 race zoom around Marina Bay Sands, it’s time to party. Off-track lineup includes: Ariana Grande, Calvin Harris, The Chainsmokers, Duran Duran
  • Road to Ultra Hong Kong (16 September, Hong Kong)
    The big ‘U’ takes over the Central Harbourfront. Lineup includes: Hardwell, Kygo, Zedd
  • Ultra Japan (16–18 September, Tokyo, Japan)
    An exciting lineup hits up Odaiba Park in Tokyo, suited for EDM and pop lovers alike. Lineup includes: Empire of the Sun, Kshmr, Porter Robinson, The Chainsmokers
  • Invasion Jakarta — Lost in Wonderland (22 September, Jakarta, Indonesia)
    Lineup includes: Martin Garrix, Alan Walker, Andrew Rayel
  • STORM Shanghai (23–24 September, Shanghai, China)
    The STORM tour continues: if you weren’t able to catch Guangzhou, you can still rock up to The Bund. Past lineup: Far East Movement, Showtek, Curbi

October

  • Monsoon Festival (TBC, Hanoi, Vietnam)
    Taking place at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Vietnam’s largest music event is one of the leaders of Hanoi’s growth as a musical capital. Past lineup: Bond, Joss Stone, The Scorpions

November

  • Montreux Jazz Festival (3–5 November, Tokyo, Japan)
    One of the three largest jazz festivals in the world continues its annual Japan offshoot at Yebisu Garden Hall. Think rule-breaking tunes rather than traditional jazz, with genres ranging from soul to world music and techno. Past lineup: Gilles Peterson, Toshio Masuura, Derrick May

  • Quest Festival (10–12 November, Hanoi, Vietnam)
    Vietnam’s largest music, arts and camping festival for hipster music lovers. Lineup includes: The Orb Soundsystem, The Bay Collective, Stars & Rabbit
  • Arcadia Taiwan (11–12 November, Taipei, Taiwan)
    An electrifying dance music festival at Da Jia Riverside Park, set against Taipei’s futuristic skyline. Lineup includes: Hardwell, Don Diablo, Rehab, DVBBS
  • Clockenflap (17–19 November, Hong Kong)
    Arguably Hong Kong’s most anticipated weekend of the year brings top international acts and indie talents to the harbourfront stage. Lineup includes: Massive Attack, Feist, Cashmere Cat
  • It’s the Ship (17–20 November, Singapore to Phuket)
    The Genting Dream cruise party sails to Phuket for the first time — complete with waterslides, mini golf and more. Past lineup: Gaby Endo, Knife Party, Sander Van Doorn
  • Electric Jungle (TBC, Shenzhen, China)
    This world-class EDM festival debuted in Shenzhen last year, and is expected to make its triumphant return. Past lineup: Knife Party, Rehab, Adventure Club
  • Electric Zoo Shanghai (TBC, Shanghai, China)
    The Shanghai offshoot of the New York EDM festival brings all the animals to town. Past lineup: Dada Life, Sander Van Doorn, Oshi

December

  • ZoukOut (8–9 December, Singapore)
    If you’re keen on a beach EDM festival, this is the biggest and baddest in Asia. Past lineup: Avicii, Above & Beyond, Paul van Dyk; Confirmed for 2017: Flume

Best music festivals - Wonderfruit

  • Wonderfruit (14–17 December, Pattaya, Thailand)
    Music, gastronomy (thanks to the Farm to Feasts programme), arts, wellness and adventures at Pattaya’s Siam Country Club: This is one festival you’ll actually feel energised after going to. Lineup includes: Richie Hautin, Roots Manuva, Gui Boratto
  • Djakarta Warehouse Project (15–16 December, Jakarta, Indonesia)
    A brilliant spectacle featuring the world’s EDM megastars in Indonesia’s capital. Past lineup: Carl Cox, Martin Garrix, Rudimental
  • Creamfields (15–16 December, Hong Kong)
    The UK’s EDM pilgrimage makes its way to Hong Kong. Lineup includes: Above & Beyond, Flume, Galantis, Marshmello
  • STORM Shenzhen (TBC, Shenzhen, China)
    If you still haven’t made it to a STORM party, it’s now closer than ever, just a hop across the border. Past lineup: CURBI, Far East Movement
  • Sunburn (TBC, Pune, India)
    Started in Goa in 2007, India’s most popular EDM festival celebrates its 10th anniversary with a new location in Pune, to the west of India. Past lineup: Sam Feldt, KYGO, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike

  • Creamfields (24–27 August, Daresbury, Cheshire, UK)
    If you got excited about the Creamfields heading to Hong Kong in December… well, this is the OG. Lineup includes: Above & Beyond, Alesso, Fat Boy Slim, Idris Elba
  • Wanderlust (24–27 August, Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada)
    A summer festival bringing together good music and yoga. Lineup includes: Bonobo, Con Brio, and yoga teachers Elena Brower and Seane Corn
  • Reading Festival + Leeds Festival (25–27 August, Reading & Leeds, UK)
    The Reading and Leeds Music Festivals are annual twin rock festivals taking place on the Bank Holiday weekend. Lineup includes: Bastille Two Door Cinema Club, Haim, Muse, Kasabian, Eminem (the same across two festivals)

Best music festivals - South West Four

  • South West Four (26–27 August, Clapham Common, South London, UK)
    Repeat award winners of UK’s best dance festival, hosted in London’s Clapham Common park. Lineup includes: Deadmau5, Tinie Tempah, Knife Party
  • Burning Man (27 August–4 September, Black Rock City, Nevada, Las Vegas, USA)
    Self-expression, leaving no trace, and of course, the ritual burning of an effigy at the centre of this temporary desert community. Expect insane art cars, surprise musical acts, and plenty of installations in the sand. Lineup includes: DJs spinning psychedelic “playa tech”
  • Dimensions (30 August–3 September, Fort Punta Christo, Pula, Croatia)
    A one-of-a-kind festival where you’re partying in an abandoned fort. Lineup includes: Underground artists such as Grace Jones, Moderat, Shuggie Otis

  • Electric Zoo (1–3 September, New York, USA)
    ‘Animals’ from the world over flock to New York City for a weekend of EDM. Lineup includes: DJ Snake, Galantis, Deadmau5 & Eric Prydz
  • Bestival (7–10 September, Lulworth Cove, Dorset, UK)
    The award-winning boutique festival relocates to Dorset for this year’s edition. Lineup includes: The xx, A Tribe Called Quest, Pet Shop Boys

  • Camp Flog Gnaw (28–29 October, Los Angeles, California, USA)
    Tyler the Creator’s weird and wonderful annual carnival brings together headlining hip hop acts to LA’s Exposition Park. Lineup includes: Tyler the Creator, A$AP Rocky, Kehlani, Lana Del Rey
  • Treasure Island (Skipping 2017, but returning October 2018, San Francisco, California, USA)
    All the cool kids will be missing TI this October as it searches for a new location for its blend of electronic music, indie rock and hip hop. Past lineup: Sigur Rós, Purity Ring, James Blake, Flight Facilities

November

  • Jazz Madrid (2–30 November, Madrid, Spain)
    One of the largest jazz festivals in the world takes place across the city of Madrid for the whole month. Past lineup: Hiromi Uehara, Gregory Porter, René Marie

  • Electric Daisy Carnival Orlando (10–12 November, Orlando, Florida, USA)
    Breathtaking light spectacles, fireworks, art and plenty of thrill rides. Lineup includes: Alan Walker, Aly & Fila, Kaskade, Troyboi, Zedd

December

  • STORM Sydney (9 December, Sydney, Australia)
    The biggest EDM festival in China makes its first international outpost in Sydney this year. Past lineup: Axwell, Zedd, Headhunterz, Far East Movement
  • Rise (16–23 December, Les Deux Alpes, France)
    Aprés-ski is cheesy karaoke and cramped bars no more, with parties day and night, plus invite-only slope adventures thanks to Rise. Past lineup: Clean Bandit, Bondax, Toyboy & Robin, B.Traits
