For 30 years, Grand Hyatt has been delighting Hongkongers with its indelible mixture of wellness, plush digs, and of course, acclaimed F&B. (On-site, there are no less than 9 dining destinations to choose from.) Christmas and NYE packages are one thing, but this year, the harbourfront stalwart is going a step further for its year-end celebrations: curating a range of one-off parties, meals, and gifts bound to bring some much-needed holiday cheer.
The kicker? Til 6 December, hungry diners and gift givers will enjoy 15 percent off reservations and purchases online marketed as part of the hotel’s Christmas and New Year promotion. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s take a closer look at the actual festive dining options — including some fantastic sit-down or take-home options.
A hamper worth hauling home for the holidays
For those planning to spend the holidays at home this Christmas — surrounded by an assortment of your nearest and dearest — Grand Hyatt’s trio of hampers is a painless way to inject a bit of style into your lunch/dinner spread. Various of the property’s dining outlets, including Grissini and Chocolatier, worked together on the contents of the 2019 hampers. The largest of these, fittingly dubbed the ‘Grand Celebration’ (HK$3,880), is a feast unto itself: including champagne, a crowd pleasing Bordeaux blend, truffle-infused olive oil, and dozens of pantry-friendly delicacies.
Even if you’re not attempting to feed half of Christendom, Grand Hyatt have still put together some fantastic hamper-esque gifting options. The ‘Grand Moment’ (HK$1,280) is, for instance, handy as a last-minute catchall: ideal for outdoor gatherings; colleagues; and the token wine guy of your crew. The pairing of bubbles, bread sticks and truffle dip isn’t a revelation, but is bound to satisfy all but the most Scrooge-like of cravings. (The packaging itself doubles as a reusable wine bag, hence the two dividers for condiments and snacks.) Remember: if you’re thinking of buying, take advantage of the early bird discount by ordering online here.
‘Party like it’s 1989’
Following a 5-day spell of hibernation — doubtless brought on by turkey, ham, and free-flowing mulled beverages — celebrate New Year’s Eve at the ever-popular Grand Hyatt Steakhouse. For one night only, the restaurant will be pay tribute to the historic Club JJ’s — known throughout the 90s as one of the best spots in Wan Chai for brews, food and stellar live entertainment.
In an ode to good times past, a segment of Grand Hyatt Steakhouse is being transformed into ‘JJ’s Music Room’, where guests are invited to dance the night away to various pop, rock, and R&B hits performed live. Free-flow packages start at HK$600, though hardcore revellers can splurge for the ‘Ultimate Countdown’ — a night-long affair combining Grand Hyatt Steakhouse’s popular holiday menus with late-night festivities.
