Gallery: The British Council celebrates ’11 Million Reasons’

The British Council celebrated the Asian premiere of 11 Million Reasons, a photography exhibition in tribute to the deaf and disabled, at Popsy Modern Kitchen in Hong Kong last night, 4 October 2016. The event attracted a mixture of Hong Kong glamourites including socialite Jennifer Chung (owner of Popsy Modern Kitchen), senior British Consulate staff, Deputy Secretary of Home Affairs Bureau (Culture) Angela Lee and more. Andrew Heyn, recently appointed as the new British Consulate General to Hong Kong and Macau, was also introduced during the occasion.

Commissioned by People Dancing from the United Kingdom, 11 Million Reasons is a series of 20 powerful visuals captured by emerging disabled photographer Sean Goldthorpe, who positively profiles deaf and disabled dancers in moves that are inspired by iconic moments from classic films, from Singing in the Rain to Flashdance. By re-imaging these disabled dancers in iconic roles, the project aims to help facilitate a change in the perception that disabled people are in any way different. The exhibition will remain at Popsy Modern Kitchen through 20 November 2016, with a special English Garden brunch being offered at the same time. Click ahead to see photos from last night’s launch.
