This month in Macau just might be the most dazzling yet: catch stunning displays of fireworks for five weekends straight from incredible vantage points; admire the lights and sounds for Mid-Autumn Festival; feast like you’re in Bordeaux or clink glasses of spectacular rosé wines. Here are all the best things to do in Macau this month.
30th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest
When: 7, 13, 21, 28 September; 1, 5, October, 9pm and 9:40pm
The Macau skyline is about to get a whole lot more sparkly, and no, it’s not just the Cotai strip: the SAR returns with its yearly International Fireworks Display Contest this year, presenting the best of worldwide pyrotechnic wizardry across five weekends this fall. A universally acclaimed festival, the presentations this year showcase the talents of participating teams from Korea, South Africa, France, Japan and more. Part of the celebrations are also a photography contest — so be sure to take your camera for a chance to win great prizes.

The fireworks will be visible from most of the city, but there are particular vantage points that are sure to make for an unforgettable experience. The ultimate view in our opinion is definitely from the top of AJ Hackett Macau Tower, where you can sit on the edge of the highest bungee jumping destination in the world — the iconic ‘Skywalk’ — and watch the incredible fireworks at 233 metres above ground. The one-of-a-kind experience is priced at MOP588 for Macau locals and MOP788 for visitors.

Rosé Revolution Macau
When: 28 September, 4–8pm
Price: MOP220–290 from MGM
Missed the Hong Kong event in August or hoping for a redux? Following the successful run of last year’s Rosé Revolution series in Macau where the beloved pink wine was first paired with matching dim sum, the festival returns once again to the MGM Macau. Head to Imperial Court at the hotel for a gorgeous pink rosé dim sum menu available throughout the month of September, whilst the festival takes place on the 28th proper. As you get to discover your new favourite rosé wine, expect mouthwatering food stations, live DJ music, and even get a mini massage while sipping on the perfect drink of the summer.

A Journey to Bordeaux
When: Through 30 November
Bordeaux needs no introduction as an epicurean paradise, with some of the finest wine, produce and meat on the planet. Head to The Parisian Macao’s Brasserie for a taste of the region with its new four-course set menu. At just MOP498 per person, you’ll get to slurp on Aracachon oysters, dig into foie gras pâté in puff pastry, green du puy lentil soup with duck confit, grilled Boston lobster en ceps, beef cheek parmentier — and those are just the highlights. A luscious hazelnut dacquoise with rum sultanas — plus the obligatory fine French cheese course — rounds off a decadent feast. Bordeaux wines are also available by the glass or bottle.
