If an intimate evening with your partner is on the agenda for New Year’s this month, head over to Ta Vi where chef Hideaki Sato is delivering a spectacular festive set menu well-deserving to be your last meal of 2018. Drawing from his experience working in French kitchens and his passion for premium produce from his native Japan, chef Sato delivers one of the city’s best examples in the French-Japanese canon of cooking, his first solo restaurant having steadily climbed the ranks to hit the #16 spot on this year’s Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Come hungry and prepare to be wowed by Sato’s creations from civet braised abalone with shell, to charcoal-roasted Wagyu in an arima pepper sauce and les feuilles mortes (pictured above) — chef’s version of a classic mont-blanc gussied up with fresh chestnuts and pu’er ice cream.

At Rech by Alain Ducasse, savour the exquisite harbourside views and elegant ocean-inspired setting while taking advantage of the Champagne Wishes & Dreams promotion; available through 31 December, it includes a pre-dinner aperitif of Dom Pérignon 2009 paired with Kaviari Caviar and a warm buckwheat blini with “Isigny” crème fraîche. - At waterfront restaurant Gia Trattoria Italiana, New Year’s Eve is bringing about pasta and pyrotechnics, with a classic Italian menu served up alongside the fireworks display above Victoria Harbour. The kitchen is whipping up an 8-course Italian feast; highlights include fried gnocchi pasta with smoked anchovies, risotto with red prawns and zucchini, and the “Crazy Water” sea bass spiked with squids, clams and covered in a bright herb sauce. Dessert is traditional Christmas panettone and stuffed Amalfi lemons, a burst of citrus with sweet meringue. Cap off the evening and ring in the new year with a view of the grand fireworks lighting up the Hong Kong night skies.
