Samsen Sheung Wan will offer an extended menu and bar programme.
Fans of Adam Cliff’s authentic street eats at Samsen will be thrilled to know that the chef-owner is on the cusp of opening his second location in Sheung Wan this month. Together with partner Bella Kong, Cliff is bringing a taste of his acclaimed Thai fare to the foodie neighbourhood: the restaurant will offer an extended exploration of traditional Thai street eats, featuring a larger menu to build upon the succinct one-pager at the Wan Chai location.
Since opening in 2016, Samsen Wan Chai has been packed to the rafters with hungry patrons looking to get a taste of decadent boat noodles, creamy coconut chicken curry, crispy fried eggs with chilli jam, wok-fried crab meat rice and more. At Samsen Sheung Wan, Cliff’s expanded menu will feature Khao Soi as the star dish — curried beef with fresh egg noodles — alongside freshly made roti that’s best dipped into the fragrant Thai curry.
With almost half of the menu exclusive to the location, diners will also want to tuck into the selection of mouthwatering skewers — think grilled coconut & chili prawn and chicken satay — and new dishes such as red curry fish cakes, caramelised coconut and pomelo betel leaf wraps, and chopped duck & Thai herb salad. A new “Curries” section also features a smashed prawn and betel leaf curry, and spiced yellow curry with chicken and potatoes. Fans of Samsen’s fresh tropical fruit spiked smoothies will also be excited to hear that the restaurant has expanded their bar programme, in a bid to become Sheung Wan’s newest post-work watering hole.
Offering more seats than its Wan Chai counterpart, Samsen Sheung Wan is outfitted in the same nostalgic vintage Thai style as its sister restaurant, with wooden rafters, colourful murals and artwork to adorn the shophouse-inspired space. The restaurant will open for dinner only during soft opening starting 14 January (Tues–Sun from 6:30–11pm), with the grand opening date set for after Chinese New Year.
