Enjoy the spirit of Italian hospitality at Operetta this Christmas

Christmas Time is finally here, and as family and friends fly into town, it can be an absolute scramble to book last-minute dinner reservations for all of your various social engagements in the coming weeks, from your office Christmas party to family reunions and the like. For Christmas gatherings spent with large families with little kids to grandparents involved, it’s all about finding a fuss-free, convivial restaurant setting filled with festive spirit and a diverse sharing-style menu to cater to a range of tastes.

For a restaurant that checks all those boxes, look no further than Operetta, opened just over a year ago at the newly revamped dining destination, Pacific Place. Conveniently located in one of Hong Kong’s most frequented shopping landmarks, Operetta whisks guests straight to the Mediterranean with a fresh and seasonal menu focused on handmade pastas, terrific pizzas and an assortment of fresh sides, salads and charcuterie platters. Led by Michelin-starred chef Luca de Berardinis, a native of Italy’s Abruzzo region famed for its mountain dishes and fresh seafood, Operetta presents the quality of a world-class restaurant in a casual setting, focusing on the pristine nature of top-notch Italian ingredients.

It’s not an Italian feast without a selection of antipasti, from bright tomato bruschetta to pink folds of premium prosciutto.

With Christmas an especially joyous time for family gatherings in big Italian families, Operetta is embracing the Italian spirit in whole this month with a festive menu focused on classic sharing-style dishes complemented by a number of antipasti dishes. Priced at HK$1,580 for a set menu to feed 3-4 people, Operetta’s Christmas Sharing menu kicks off with a signature antipasti platter, loaded high with mouth-watering duck liver terrine on housemade brioche, muchroom panzerotti, smoked salmon butter crostini, marinated swordfish and Ascoli-style breaded olives.

Then comes a parade of pastas: chef Berardini’s deft hand at pasta-making is evident in the traditional cappelletti (like a hat-shaped tortellini) stuffed with mixed meats, and the perfectly al dente trapanesi langoustine flavoured with squid ink for a potent taste of the sea. Mains are an equally hearty affair — think juicy beef ribeye with an assortment of grilled vegetables for the meat lovers, and jumbo tiger prawns paired with lentils for those more inclined to seafood. As for dessert, the true spirit of Italian generosity is on display with an indulgent array of sweets from gelato to panettone to classic Italian tiramisu and more. Finally, if that wasn’t enough to get you in the spirit of the holidays, the meal ends on a high with a festive Christmas log — everyone’s favourite dessert this time of year.

The Christmas menu at Operetta includes six different desserts, from classic tiramisu to Italian panettone.

With chef Berardinis leading the exquisite preparation of dishes and generous offering throughout the holidays, you’re sure to have a memorable night of fun and feasting at Operetta with your loved ones this month. And if you can’t make it before the 24th, you can still stop in for the Christmas Sharing menu before 31 December; or for the Operetta Italian Sunday Brunch, served every Sunday as a free-flow antipasti buffet and dessert buffet option (HK$208 per person, plus HK$130 for main course), where you can dine to your heart’s content on Italian charcuterie, cheeses, bright seasonal salads and more.
