Shopping and dining go hand-in-hand at the latest lifestyle café to open in Macau, located along the promenade shops in Galaxy Macau. The brainchild of Joanna Lui (daughter of Asia tycoon Francis Lui), Cha Bei is a contemporary, stylish space decked out in pretty pastel colours, incorporating a healthy café, takeaway counter for sandwiches and smoothies, and gift gallery selling everything from sunglasses to Cha Bei’s homemade range of jams and spreads.
At the dining counter, guests can choose from a variety of healthy and wholesome eats (inspired by Joanna’s own passion for healthy eating) including the Cha Bei Salad with organic leaves, green mango, quinoa and toasted almonds in a coconut dressing; and the Toss or Turn handmade noodles with tofu, seasonal mushrooms and vegetables served in a fragrant morel mushroom broth.
The portion of the menu labeled “Comfort Choices” provides more substantial mains, such as the signature chicken and couscous with slow-braised chicken meatballs in a zingy tomato sauce. From “Communal Choices”, Cha Bei encourages a sharing-style menu with friends with dishes like “The Not So Traditional VAV” featuring chicken, abalone, scallop and fish maw in puff pastry with a light cream sauce.
For desserts, snack on a range of homemade desserts including Cha Bei’s signature soufflé, strawberry chiffon cake, and the earl grey crème with raspberry, chia seed jelly, fresh berries and OJ (notice a recurring pink theme?). To go with the girly sweets, Cha Bei’s beverage counter will offer coffee and tea (over 15 varieties to be exact), juices, smoothies and cocktails. Get a quick boost in-between shopping with the Green Goddess blended with a mix of healthy antioxidants, or digest your lunch with the Pinot Noir, an orange Pekoe black tea with a mild earthy flavour.
For stylish shoppers ducking into Cha Bei for a quick spot of tea and a cake to share, the retail corner will be an irresistible pit stop, stocked with stylish accessories and eyewear from renowned designer René Chu. Gourmet treats by Sugarfina will be available to purchase for those who fancy a few stowaway sweets, while a selection of homemade jams and spreads are available to host your own stylish tea party at home.
As for design, the space could double as a Pinterest postcard, with pastel pink and green accents, silk wallpaper with leather florals by Lala Curio, a garden swing chair and decorative gold birdcages. A relaxed and sophisticated space, we expect Cha Bei to become a popular daytime destination spot in Macau for people-gazing and nutritious nibbling for the stylish, health-conscious set.
