This week’s ‘New Eats’ has something for those in Hong Kong who are (cautiously) optimistic about going out to eat, as well as those who continue to safely socially distance at home. Here are a handful of the latest menus we’re looking forward to in the city.
Brando’s Burger Joint
There are always new eats in the city, but you never know if you’re about to try something good, so we’ve done the leg work for you (you’re welcome). Before Gordon Ramsay pulled all his restaurants from Hong Kong, Brandon Tomkinson was Head Chef at Bread Street Kitchen on the Peak. Now he’s struck out on his own with a series of weekly pop-ups around town. At the moment, his travelling kitchen Brando’s Burger is stationed at Mama Malouf in Kennedy Town, popping up every Wednesday from 1pm onwards. If you’re down to try some of Chef Tomkinson’s classic burgers and quirkier creations — from veggie portobello burgers with halloumi to a highly anticipated pork burger (yet to come), slide into their DMs on Instagram to book a spot. Dine in seats are limited, but you can order take-out to enjoy at home. We recommend the So Spicy La (HK$120) for a burger with a kick, as well as a side of ‘You little ripper Ribs, and some nectar’ (HK$60) — Chef Tomkinson’s 12-hour slow-cooked beef short ribs laced with a scrumptious honey mustard glaze.

LPM Restaurant & Bar at home
Want a taste of the French Riviera delivered straight to your doorstep? LPM Restaurant & Bar is now available to order. The specially curated delivery menu will include indulgent, vaguely healthy dishes such as the french beans with foie gras salad (HK$188) or the endive salad with gorgonzola and caramelised walnuts (HK$168). Feeling more peckish? There’s also a 400g Grilled rib-eye steak (HK$568) or grilled lamb cutlets with smoked aubergine (HK$458) for good measure.

Ming Court’s first-ever zongzi
Prepping with your family for the Dragon Boat Festival? As we gear up for June, we can’t miss out on the fact that Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant Ming Court at Cordis Hong Kong has just launched its first ever glutinous rice dumplings (HK$308 each) for order/pick-up. Executive Chef Li Yuet Faat has improved upon traditional zongzi recipes with the use of premium ingredients, which include whole twelve-head South African abalone, Japanese conpoy and roasted duck meat (among a host of other ingredients). The restaurant is taking orders from now until 25 June, and you can also order the rice dumplings in a set with a bottle of Ming Court’s homemade XO sauce (HK$498).
