It’s that time of year where mistletoe and holiday wreaths adorn the mantlepiece and tables are laid out with a brimming selection of holiday treats, from sumptuous roasted turkeys to a colourful carousel of sides and Christmas sweets. During this festive time of year, Hong Kongers are inundated with choice when it comes to festive menus and merry gathering spots around town, whether you’re seeking the traditional or unconventional, fancy fine dining or casual bistro-style fare.

For those looking for an all-traditional Christmas dinner with a side of brilliant views, look no further than Wooloomooloo Group, which is offering up an exclusive selection of holiday menus to pair with panoramic views at their premium Hong Kong outlets.

Tuck into a traditional Christmas feast

At the group’s flagship restaurant Wooloomooloo Prime, enjoy bird’s-eye views overlooking Tsim Sha Tsui and the harbour beyond from atop The ONE shopping mall, while you relax in the elegant and sophisticated steakhouse. Christmas dinner from 24–25 December is priced at HK$988 per person and includes a plethora of starters, mains and desserts, including smoked trout and crab meat cannelloni topped with caviar, followed by a quail ballotine paired with foie gras, lentils and truffle jus. The lobster bisque is one of the best in town, followed by your choice of three mains: traditional Christmas turkey with sautéed brussels sprouts and pancetta; pan-seared wild turbot with scallop ravioli and potato and warm artichoke salad; or grilled Australian 200-day grain-fed sirloin, served with confit of shallots and garlic, mushrooms, creamed parsley and Shiraz jus. Top it off with the decadent lemon meringue tart and a scoop of Amaretto gelato, or the comforting warm Christmas pudding. Those booking the Christmas menu will enjoy free access to the Christmas Eve party (HK$350 otherwise at the door), including two drinks from 6pm onwards.

Over at Wooloomooloo Steakhouse TST East, a similar festive celebration is in order; priced at HK$688 per person, the meal includes lobster medallions and seared Hokkaido scallop with Romesco sauce, or pan-fried foie gras with seared smoked duck breast and a fresh fig salad for starters. The wild mushroom consommé with port wine and porcini is a soul-warming broth, while mains of salmon and prawn wellington in a luscious lobster sauce and slow-roasted Australian beef tenderloin are sure to appease both meat and seafood lovers. Feeling extra festive? Opt instead for the turkey breast roll stuffed with pancetta and pine nuts and served with chestnut stew, yam purée. Dessert rounds out with Christmas pudding, dark chocolate truffle, mini fresh raspberry tart, macaron and Grand Marnier choux — followed by a much-needed rendezvous around the adjoining harbourside promenade.

Sticking to the island side? Head to Wooloomooloo Steakhouse in Wan Chai, where you can soak up 270-degree views of Victoria Harbour and the Happy Valley Racecourse from the dining room and rooftop terrace — the perfect location for enjoying a pre-dinner tipple while savouring Hong Kong’s mild winter temperatures. Christmas Eve dinner (HK$898 per person) will kick off with appetisers of duck breast and foie gras terrine with a sweet chutney and sourdough toasts, or poached Boston lobster with Macedonian vegetables and quail eggs. The interlude is a creamy potato and leek soup, followed by mains of Acquerello risotto with Hokkaido scallops and saffron with green asparagus and shaved black truffle; or grilled Australian Wagyu sirloin and seared langoustines in a traditonal surf ‘n’ turf platter. For the traditional route, Christmas turkey is sure to hit the spot — a moist and tender bird stuffed with dried fruits, served with sautéed wild spinach, polenta cake wrapped in bacon, baby carrots and cranberry sauce.

If fine dining is not your forte, The Chop House — Woolomooloo Group’s casual grill house — is an excellent option for enjoying equally mouthwatering fare without the fuss of fancy steakhouses. Situated inside Mira Place in Tsim Sha Tsui, The Chop House has long been a favourite for its generously portioned grilled meat and seafood platters, and gut-busting gastropub-style sides and appetisers. This Christmas, The Chop House looks to indulge diners with a decadent offering drawing inspiration from around the globe, starting with octopus and chorizo with Jerusalem artichokes, or a foie de poulet tart of chicken liver and fig jam. Cajun shrimp bisque soup, pan-seared John Dory and Malian clams with orange-glazed endive round out the tasting menu, or choose the glorious roasted stuffed French turkey which is sure to send you on your way stuffed and satisfied.
