One for the epicurean mum. For a special celebration, a special dish at the city’s favourite pasta bar, Pici. The ravioli della Mamma (HK$180), devised by chef Andrea Viglione and executive chef Davide Borin, is a beetroot dough stuffed with goat cheese mousse and cooked in an aromatic seafood guazzetto. Keep orders going for more, for this dish is limited for one day only.

Early on this year, Kinship welcomed chef Nelson Gonzalez into the fold, and successfully replicated the restaurant’s home-style cooking with his distinct Venezuelan twist. The convivial atmosphere is a lovely space to celebrate dearest mum. As for the special Mother’s Day Brunch (HK$448 per person), make room for the warm octopus salad, Southern fried chicken steak and the Sunday classic roast, served either with the Okinawa pork loin or strip loin with duck-fat fried potatoes, roasted veggies and gravy-filled Yorkshire puddings. Smoke & Barrel
There’s no disputing: On any given weekend, we’d flock to Smoke & Barrel for its meaty, oh-so-satisfying brunch. Something mum would probably appreciate too. One for Mother’s Day, the limited time special includes a tasty welcome cocktail for mum, kicking off the generous menu which comes with four sharing starters, a choice of four mains and desserts to share. The S&B Smoked Meats are a selection not to be missed, with the classic brisket, pulled pork and juicy, glazed ribs.

Trust Roganic to do the heavy lifting and plan mum a meal she’ll certainly adore. For 9 May, the restaurant has organised a special tea pairing with a range of six different tea-based beverages, all steeped in-house and includes cold brews and sparkling cuppas. For food, the long tasting menu (HK$980), packed with the beloved restaurant’s signatures will be superb choice, topped with plates like the mackerel tartare and sea urchin custard perfectly poised to impress.

It’s always a great time at modern Japanese izakaya, Zuma. For Mother’s Day, the iconic free-flow brunch returns; three-hours of endless Champagne is on the agenda. A wish for many mums. Sample the unlimited stream of Japanese plates including yakitori straight off the grill, tempura, sashimi and maki rolls. We’d recommend saving a tiny spot for the mains — the roasted lobster garnished with shiso with a ponzu butter drizzle will be worth it. And wait! An impressive dessert trilogy prepared by head pastry chef Eddy Lee for the lady of the evening: sumptuous molten chocolate cake, chawanmushi with strawberries and a rose-infused cake.

A week-long getaway to coastal Italy may be the dream the city’s many hard-working mums, but for now, perhaps a close-second alternative at Osteria Marzia for an oyster shucking afternoon (HK$488). The charming sun-filled dining room takes position as a quaint seaside cafe on 9 May, fitted with a raw bar stocked with prime market seafood from Bari Mercato, endless flutes of bubbly Champagne and the sampling of premium bivalves with chef Luca.

A generous serve of Sunday roast on Mother’s Day feels particularly wonderful, especially when day of indulgence (for mum) is on the schedule, and especially when said roast is prepared by Californian barbecue house Big Sur. The three-course menu (HK$380) begin with a slew of the restaurant’s signature starters before arriving to the main star of the show – grilled mains. The Cochinita Pibil, shredded pork shoulders on flour tortillas with charred pineapple, and sambal-roasted halibut with Guajillo chilli and a squeeze of lime look particularly delicious.

China Tang Harbour City
China Tang at Harbour City dishes out a special Mother’s Day set (HK$588) topped with comforting, crowd-favourites from chef Alan Ng Wai Lun. Begin with the bite-sized barbecue pork, with signature serves of double-boiled bamboo pith soup, baked crab meat and a jumbo garoupa casserole to follow. The menu ends with a sweet double-boiled milk pudding topped with taro puree and imperials bird’s nest. Book early — at least three days in advance — for a delicious Peking duck on the house! A destination for those looking to impress.

A taste of time-honoured tradition that every mother will surely enjoy: a Mother’s Day celebration at Yung’s Bistro. The limited eight-course dinner menu (HK$3,280) showcase the popular eatery’s fine Cantonese fare, with the signature roasted goose, most certainly, not amiss. Various favourites also make an appearance: pan-fried soy sauce prawns and shrimp fried rice wrapped in lotus leaf. For an extra special treat, orders for the eight-course dinner will include a set of Pharambelle hand care gifted especially for mum. Reservations must be made a day in advance.

No doubt celebratory dinners during the past year have been difficult — dull, even — reduced to either restricted seating or takeaway sets. To rekindle the joy of momentous dinners out, chef Yuta Shimizu of French fine-dine spot Tirpse introduces a spring season menu — available in either lunch or dinner seating — and spotlights the new selection. “We wanted out spring menu to reflect optimism.” Chef Shimzu commented, “Spring is about renewal and anticipation. The dishes on the spring menu take advantage of some of the world’s top seasonal ingredients.” he finished. Speaking of which, you’d want to try the white asparagus, carefully arranged with smoked paprika jelly, blood orange and Hokkaido uni and finished with a drizzle of rosemary-infused syrup. Another recommendation, pan-seared lamb with spring artichoke that is deep fried with a curry-infused coating and a touch of rich au jus. A wonderful meal to commemorate Mother’s Day.
Morton’s the Steakhouse
Delicious food and a little well-deserved pampering for mum is in store at Morton’s the Steakhouse. The decadent three-course Steak & Lobster menu aside — we’re particularly tempted by the jumbo lump crab cake and side of parmesan and truffle matchstick fries — the surf-and-turf special comes with a complimentary make-up service at Chanel. The perfect chance for mum to dress up on this decadent evening; it’s a day dedicated to her after all.
