An extravagantly designed bar becomes the home of exotic performances

Ready to escape the banal realities of everyday life? Step inside Ophelia, the otherworldly wonderland filled with fire-wielding burlesque dancers in cages, peacock feather-clad muses adorning the bar counters, and candy-covered performers with circus acts. Billed as a place “where the magic happens,” Ophelia is all about creating experiences unlike any available in Hong Kong’s nightlife scene — all you have to do is come along for the ride.

Performers add intrigue to the night at the weekend Sinful Circus parties.

Ophelia made a grand entrance to Hong Kong’s nightlife scene in early 2016, with a stunning interior designed by award-winning creative mastermind Ashley Sutton. The bar is hidden behind an exotic bird shop façade; step through the entrance and be transported into an alternate reality, a seductive, neon green-lit hidden lair inspired by the upscale opium dens of the 19th century. A fascinating peacock motif runs from the main bar through the maze of connecting rooms, with real peacock plumage decorating the bar area, traditional Chinese archways mimicking the curve of peacock tails, and servers dressed in blue and green cheongsams.

But the captivating interiors aren’t the only draw: Ophelia gives patrons a one-of-a-kind experience, with a rotating cast of characters, performers, DJ’s and dancers making every night one to remember. Entertainment has been part of Ophelia’s DNA since it first opened, but this nightlife destination is now taking things to a new level.

Ophelia offers an ‘Alice-in-Wonderland’-like attraction for adults.

Having dabbled in theatrical conceits for its Halloween and New Year’s Eve parties, the bar now aims to become Hong Kong’s premier nighttime entertainment venue, a place where you can take in exotic shows almost any night of the week. The decadent atmosphere will be bolstered by enchanting performances ranging from flirtatious burlesque fan dancers to thrilling circus acts. The fun has already begun: Stop by Friday and Saturday nights as Ophelia transforms into the Sinful Circus, with an extraordinary performing cast designed to excite and entertain the crown from dusk until dawn.

With something for everyone, Ophelia can even provide specially tailored entertainment for any event, based on any theme or desire. According to the Artistic Director, nothing is off-limits, so be prepared to let your imagination run wild when it comes to entertaining your guests or throwing the party of the year.

A night out at Ophelia promises to be a little bit weird and also wonderful.

Don’t let the extravagant décor and entertainment district you from ordering a few drinks. The staff behind the bar draw from a “Cabinet of Curiosities” to make use of Asian herbs, spices, aromatics and exotic fruit. You’ll find whimsical concoctions such as The Jade Cat, made with Iwai Japanese whiskey, Baika Ranman Umeshu and housemade bitter green tea liqueur; and Le Plumage, with Sagatiba Cachaça, blood orange, Gold Slab syrup, Shisandra Dram, lime and chilli-infused charred pineapple.
