We all need some good news (and an expertly crafted cocktail, if we’re lucky) during these uncertain times. With the world affected by city- and country-wide lockdowns, which resulted in the unfortunate, unavoidable closures across multiple industries in hospitality, previously jubilant occasions such as the Asia’s 50 Best Bars award ceremony have also shifted to a very different tone.

Due to the global pandemic, this year’s Asia’s 50 Best Bars award became a digital affair, live streaming on 14 May 7pm HKT to a global audience. While there was no live clinking of glasses, congratulatory hugs and uproarious celebration in the room as compared to previous years, the anticipation and excitement was definitely still felt on the live comments section — and no doubt with bar teams and bar lovers all around the globe who were watching from home.

These are strange times indeed, but more than ever, this year’s Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2020 results announcement emphasised the inspiring sense of solidarity in the Asian and global drinks community, celebrating all the hard work of bars and bartenders who pour their ceaseless creativity into their glasses. Once it’s safe to do so in your country, you’ll definitely want to support your local bars — and add the shortlisted venues from around the region onto your bucket list.

Without further ado, you can check out the full list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars below — venues located in Hong Kong are highlighted in boldface and asterisks denote new entrants to the list. (See here for last year’s Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2019.)
