Having already hosted a very successful month-long pop-up in January, one that featured mixologists from New York City’s celebrated PDT, MO Bar at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental has just announced that it’s planning to welcome some very special guests to Hong Kong this fall. Beginning 1 September, Bar High Five, one of Tokyo’s most venerable Ginza bars, will head to MO Bar for an exclusive two-month residency.

The upstairs private room known as The Shell will play host to Hidetsugu Ueno and his team of award-winning mixologists, Kaori Kurakami and Yuriko Naganuma, who will be shaking and serving a total of 14 specially crafted cocktails. The jewel-box interior will be transformed to resemble Mr. Ueno’s legendary Ginza institution, which is known for its theatrical drink preparations and signature ice-carving programme. Also worth noting: the bar reached third place in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2016.

A bestoke menu will be served and includes charcuterie of Ibérico Bellota Ham by Bellota Bellota.

That’s not all there is to be excited about. To complement the cocktails, culinary director Richard Ekkebus, the genius behind Amber, will present a bespoke menu of gastronomic treats for Bar High Five, which will feature charcuterie and Iberian specialties from Bellota Bellota.

Timed to coincide with the two-month pop-up, the Landmark Mandarin Oriental is organising an Instagram contest to give away a two-night stay for two at the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo. To enter, all you need to do is follow @mo_landmarkhk and post a photo of the Bar High Five pop-up along with the hashtags #BarHighFiveHK and #MOBarHK_mixologists. The photograph that receives the most likes wins, and only one winner will be selected per month within the promotion period, so you’ll have two chances to win.

If you’re at all interested in experiencing this exciting pop-up, you should act fast to secure a spot, as only two five-person tables are available for advance booking. (The Shell has a maximum seating capacity of 20 people, so the other 10 seats will be available to walk-ins.) If you’re not lucky enough to snag a seat during the tw0-month run, fret not. Menswear shop Attire House has partnered with Bar High Five to open Bar de Luxe, Ueno’s first collaboration outside Japan, by the end of the year.
