Release tension and cool down with these summer spa treatments

Feeling burnt out at work? We’ll take any reason for a mini celebration, and with it now being more than than halfway through the year, it’s time to treat yourself with a good pat on the back (or more like a luxurious deep tissue massage) with these summer spa treatments.

New Elemis Massages at Melo Spa

Summer Spa Treatments - Melo Spa, Hyatt Regency Sha Tin

Just last year, Hyatt Regency‘s Melo Spa introduced British spa brand Elemis to its roster of treatments, and this summer, they’ve added a host of brand new ones to help you unwind for the season. If you’re looking to target pesky cellulite or need a boost for your summer bod, you’ll want to try the 90-minute Targeted Toning Tightener (HK$1,480). It starts with a mineral nigari deep cleansing step, followed by a sculpting massage, ending with a cooling detoxifying mask for problem areas.

For those with some serious knots in their shoulders, a Freestyle Deep Tissue Massage (60-min HK$1,060; 90-min HK$1,498) is duly in order. We recently got to test this out: Like a true restorative massage, the therapist uses flowing yet firm strokes and strong digging motions of her elbows to really soften and stretch out tense muscles, from the neck and shoulders down through the entire back and even down to your glutes, perfect for those of us who sit all day at a desk. A fair warning to those who aren’t used to strong massage pressure, this one might get pretty overwhelming, but you’ll reap plenty of benefits by powering through. Encouraging circulation and pushing out all those stagnant toxins, you wake up feeling ultimately light and refreshed, as if all your cares have floated out of the body, and with your joints relaxed as new — you might even find your arms and legs a little slimmer, from all the water retention flushed out.

If you prefer a spa session that’s less hardcore and more aromatherapy-centric, the Garden of England Rose Restore treatment (60-min HK$1,060; 90-min HK$1,498) indulges the skin in rose, camelina and poppy seed oils for supple, youthful looking skin. The bespoke massage here is comforting, moisturising and you’ll come out smelling like a garden in full bloom.

If you need to polish down your skin for ultimate smoothness, you can also opt for a 30-minute salt scrub. Pamper your skin with the new Frangipani Monoi Salt Glow (HK$580) for an ultra-moisturising finish, or the Lime Ginger Salt Glow (HK$580) using bergamot, coconut and sweet almond oils infused with lime, ginger and salt for a detoxifying effect, as well as a boost to metabolism.

And if that’s still not enough pampering from head to toe, Melo Spa is also offering 80-minute Total Retreat Packages (through the end of August), pairing a 55-minute facial with a 25-minute booster massage, priced at HK$1,499 per person. You’ll also receive a complimentary Elemis Skincare Detox Collection Kit (worth HK$700) to take home.

Year-round Body Balancing at Chuan Spa

Summer Spa Treatments - Chuan Spa, Cordis Hong Kong, Tao of Detox Treatment

Chuan Spa  is world-famous for incorporating the balancing philosophies from traditional Chinese medicine into its spa programme, using the five elements of fire, earth, wind, water and metal. This year they’ve devised a new range of treatments relating to the season and the element in nature that pertains to it. From June to September, the summer special is the Chuan Tao of Detox Treatment: two and a half hours (HK$1,825) of relaxing steps to detox your body of the ‘fire’ that predominates in our bodies during hot weather, as well as detoxifying the heart and digestive tract.

A full body exfoliation helps to stimulate blood flow and lymphatic drainage, while a warm algae wrap also helps to take the toxins away from the body. This is followed by an acupressure massage to ease out any knots, before rounding off with a customised Kerstin Florian Deep Cleansing facial that will quench dry, dehydrated skin. Be sure to clear out your afternoon and enjoy the Cordis Hong Kong rooftop pool and health club before drying off and cooling down with this summer spa session.
