One of the most cherished and colourful celebrations in the Chinese calendar, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a spectacular fiesta marked by thousands of vivid lanterns sparkling under a moonlit sky and a generous spirit of communion shared by family and friends. Paying tribute to this lunar-themed occasion, The Peninsula Boutique introduces their specially curated ‘Moonlit August by The Peninsula’ Pop-up at Pacific House in Central. Offering a selection of delectable Star Chef mooncakes, served alongside soothing teas, as well as a delightful five senses experience, this holiday station will be open to visitors daily from 2–31 August 2019, from 11am–7pm.
Star Chef Mooncake Collection
The stars of The Peninsula Boutique Pop-up, undoubtedly, are its exceptional mooncakes. Overseen by the highly acclaimed chef Tang Chi Keung, The Peninsula’s Michelin-starred Chinese Culinary Advisor, this year’s exclusive mini mooncakes include two new flavours: Walnut Egg Custard and Dried Longan Egg Custard. Encase in a golden, buttery crust, these delicious treats can be purchased individually or as part of the Star Chef Moon Gazing Gift Box. In addition, the specialty Mini Tea-flavoured edition comes with two brand new assortments this year: Tie Guan Yin Tea Egg Custard and Breakfast Tea Egg Custard.
As anyone who’s ever tried this famed bakery’s treats knows very well, The Peninsula’s Mini Egg Custard Mooncakes have been a treasured Mid-Autumn Festival tradition in their own right since they were first introduced in 1986. After more than 30 years, the carefully crafted pastries are still amongst some of the most coveted mooncakes in the city every year.
Five Senses Illuminated Area
Adding to the brilliance of the festival, this Peninsula Pop-up will also feature a unique Five Senses Illuminated Area, creatively designed to provide an engaging encounter for all customers. The excitement begins right at the entrance of the temporary installation, where a bright façade is inspired by an eye-catching lotus-themed motif and features a striking ensemble of 52 gigantic lotuses. Each of these lovely flowers symbolises one week of the entire year.
Stepping inside, visitors are immediately welcomed to the Tasting Area where they can sample The Peninsula Boutique’s exquisite mooncakes and sip on signature teas. Once satiated, you’ll be escorted by the boutique’s friendly staff to the ‘Five Senses Illuminated Area’. It’s here that the magic overtakes as you enter a digitally created space that replicates a setting with a beautiful, pristine and elegant lotus pond. A game of sounds and shadows ensues as all your five senses are engaged — ‘See’ the full moon beaming above blooming lotuses, ‘Hear’ the breeze rustling through the air, ‘Smell’ the refreshing fragrance of the flowers, ‘Touch’ the light display, and ‘Taste’ the boutique’s delicious offerings still lingering on your lips.
Realising that such an enthralling experience deserves to be shared, The Peninsula Pop-up will host a ‘Take a Selfie and Win’ contest: Visitors are encouraged to take pictures and post them on their Instagram or Facebook accounts, with the tags @ThePeninsulaBoutique, #MoonlitAugust and #TraditionReinvented. The 50 most creative entries will receive a premium tea gift each from The Peninsula Boutique.
Speaking of tea, The Peninsula Boutique will also be giving away complimentary tea bags to the community in Central as part of their Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. These tea bags come with 15% off discount coupons that can be used for purchasing The Peninsula Boutique premium tea at the ‘Moonlit August by The Peninsula’ pop-up.
An Eco-friendly Initiative
As part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability, The Peninsula Boutique has also introduced a special Recycling Reward Programme where customers can return the mooncake boxes (drop-off point is at The Peninsula Arcade in Tsim Sha Tsui) in return for online boutique shopping coupons. In collaboration with St. James’ Settlement, the recycled boxes will be up-cycled into chess sets for charity sales.
With so much on offer, make sure to mark your calendars and head to The Peninsula Boutique Pop-up in August to relish their fine gourmet delights with your loved ones.
The ‘Moonlit August by The Peninsula’ Pop-up will take place from 2–31 August from 11am–7pm daily at Pacific House, Shop 20 & 20A, G/F, Pacific House, 20 Queen’s Road Central, Hong Kong
