From track to field and far beyond, the Richard Mille RM 67-02 is the ultimate athlete’s watch

When it comes to performance — that metric so beloved by watch nerds everywhere — Richard Mille aren’t in the habit of settling for less. The manufacture have long been known for their continual and nuanced appreciation of high performance sports, so it seemed entirely reasonable when they released two Olympic themed editions last year. Both based on the versatile, in-house manufactured, featherweight Richard Mille RM 67-01, 2017’s RM 67-02 Sprint and RM 67-02 High Jump(inspired by Olympic medallists Wayde van Niekerk and Mutaz Essa Barshim respectively) were themed around the World Championships in Athletics, embodied in unbreakable timepieces able to withstand the pressures of Olympic-level performance.

Now, Richard Mille return to the eternal spring that is professional sports with the release of another four RM 67-02 models, this time tackling the new but equally demanding frontiers of tennis, skiing and Formula 1. Inspired by leading personalities from within each discipline, the new RM 67-02s are each equipped with the ever popular CRMA7 calibre (an in-house movement featuring a free sprung balance and 50 hours of power) and bear the distinction of easily being Richard Mille’s lightest watch yet, weighing in at an ethereal 32 grams. Light, comfortable and more stylistically diverse than ever, we give you the low-down on these “same same but different” additions to the burgeoning RM 67-02 lineup.

RM 67-02 Alexander Zverev Tennis

Inspired by German tennis pro Alexander Zverev (currently the youngest player in the ATP top 10 and two-time winner of the Masters 1000 tournament) the RM 67-02 Tennis is perhaps the boldest looking release from the eponymous range yet. Layers of Carbon TPT sandwiched against red quartz give the Zverev incredible wrist factor; and taken in conjunction with the yellow bridges and crown provide a clear allusion to German colours.

RM 67-02 Alexis Pinturault Ski

This particular RM 67-02 edition is inspired by the colours of French skier Alexis Pinturault. A specialist in the slalom and super-G disciplines, Pinturault has 17 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup victories under his belt and took home the bronze medal for the giant slalom at the 2014 Winter Olympics. This alpine-themed riff on the RM 67-02 makes good use of the TPT composite case, showcasing uniformly high levels of finishing. The almost wood-like grain of the case is punctuated by the Richard Mille team’s signature spleen screws; with the white mass of the dial making for the perfect platform against which to showcase the calibre CRMA7’s innumerable overlapping bridges.

RM 67-02 Fernando Alonso F1 Prototype

Spanish McLaren F1 racer Fernando Alonso’s RM 67-02 is one of two prototypes that are currently touring the Formula 1 circuits. Likely to be used as the testbed for future Richard Mille calibres and chronograph-centric innovations, Alonso’s RM 67-02 stands apart from its three other counterpart releases due to the inclusion of national and local liveries. The colours of the Spanish flag are swaddled by a strap and outer case plates in spectacular blue, evocative of Alonso’s home principality of Asturias.

RM 67-02 Sébastien Oger Rally

Possibly the most subdued addition to the RM 67-02 lineup, the Rally is Richard Mille’s physically effervescent, visually unforgettable tribute to Sébastien Oger — the current champion of the World Rally Drivers’ Championship. Unlike the Pinturault RM 67-02, this release declares Oger’s French nationality in less overt fashion, marrying the outer elements of the composite case with tonally consistent handwork in the skeleton movement.
