5 runway shows we can’t wait to see at NYFW Spring 2017 RTW

As summer turns to fall, it’s time for the global phenomenon of Fashion Week to begin once again. As always, New York leads the ready-to-wear shows, giving us the first glimpse of future style trends. NYFW has already begun — Tom Ford and Kanye West showed off their new collections already — and runs through the 15th, giving some of the world’s greatest designers a stage to show their latest collections.

We can’t wait to see what the new season holds in store, and we’ll be bringing you highlights as Fashion Week continues in New York, London, Milan and Paris. With a packed calendar full of shows, it’s hard to know which ones to look out for. Lucky for you, we’re here to offer some guidance. We’ve got a good feeling that Alexander Wang and Rodarte will dominate the runways this season, with some other notable designers rounding out the pack. Here are the five NYFW runway shows we can’t wait to see — and why you should care about them.

Self-Portrait NYFW
Self-Portrait’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection.

We know we’re not the only ones who have become huge fans of Self-Portrait’s romantic and contemporary creations. In anticipation of what’s to come this season, we revisited the Fall/Winter 2016 collection, which contained more mystery than we’ve come to expect from this brand. Looking ahead, we’re curious to see how it continues to thrive and take on new trends. Our hope is they find a way to innovate and leave some of the lace behind.

Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang NYFW
Alexander Wang’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection.

Precocious and powerful, Alexander Wang has become a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry. His collections become stronger each season, and always leave critics and style hounds with lots to talk about. Having left his post at Balenciaga a little under a year ago, the designer now has 100% focus on his own label, which is now more than a decade old, and we’re excited to see the next stage of his vision.

The Row

The Row NYFW
The Row’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection.

The idea of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen starting a fashion label may have seemed laughable to some in 2006, but a decade later, no one can deny their success. (This year, The Row was nominated for two awards by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.) Always understated but never unimaginative, The Row continuously delivers well-reviewed collections. From oversized pieces to tailored silhouettes, they design essentials with enduring style. We look forward to seeing what they bring to the catwalk next.

Rosie Assoulin

Rosie Assoulin NYFW
Rosie Assoulin’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection.

There are a lot of things that can be said about Millennials, both good and bad, but when it comes to Rosie Assoulin all we can say is that she’s creating a fresh new take on women’s fashion. Adored for her structural designs, there’s something very artistic about her creations, which continue to surprise us in every collection. We love that, through her draping skills, she’s able to breath new life into fashion in a bold and fun way.

Rodarte NYFW
Rodarte’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection.

No one quite knows how to bring fantasy and rock and roll together as well as Rodarte does. The fashion-designer sisters are known for their artistic way of mixing couture elements with contemporary femininity, while always bringing Californian influences into their pieces. We love to see the way Rodarte designs artsy silhouettes with an edge to create the perfect outfit for any fashion girl. We have high hopes, but we’re confident they’ll deliver exactly what we’re looking for while also managing to surprise us.
