6 unique art exhibitions for style lovers

Art Basel Hong Kong 2017 is almost here, and art lovers all over are getting ready for a jam-packed week from the world’s biggest contemporary art exhibition. Luxury brands and retailers are joining in the action, too, as they prepare to present special collaborative works with artistic talents from around the world. Read on below for our list of exhibitions that aim to fuse the worlds of fashion and art.

Joyce: Pop-up exhibitions presented by Gazelli Art House, London

‘A Day At Home – Family Room 2013’ by Charlotte Colbert

When: Starting 17 March

Leading up to this year’s Art Basel, Joyce Boutique‘s flagship store on Queen’s Road Central will play host to London’s Gazelli Art House as they introduce works by selected artistic talents including pop artist and fashion designer Philip Colbert, along with Charlotte Colbert, Mila Askarova and more via pop-up exhibitions throughout the iconic store.

Christian Louboutin: ‘Complimentary Colours’ by CJ Hendry

New York-based Australian artist CJ Hendry will debut her first exhibition in Asia, in collaboration with Christian Louboutin.

When: 21–23 March

Christian Louboutin will collaborate with New York-based Australian artist CJ Hendry, as she debuts her first exhibition, ‘Complimentary Colours’, in Asia during Art Basel week. Best known for her iconic monochromatic pen drawings of luxury and popular culture consumer products, the hyper-realistic artist uses colour as a medium for the first time, presenting highly rendered, mesmerising drawings of thick oil paint in different colourways. Look out for the highlights in red as an homage to the iconic Christian Louboutin soles.

Gucci: ‘A Magazine Curated by Alessandro Michele featuring Petra Collins’ Exhibition

When: 22–26 March

Following the success of the two previous art exhibitions in Shanghai and Tokyo in 2015 and 2016 titled ‘No Longer/Not Yet’ and ‘Gucci 4 Rooms’, Creative Director of Gucci Alessandro Michele has invited Editor-in-Chief of A Magazine Petra Collins to present a multimedia exhibition inspired by Michele’s whimsically curated edition of A Magazine last November.

Taking the form of a trilogy, the exhibition will premier in Hong Kong from 22–26 March before travelling to Beijing and Taipei, showcasing works by Michelle that were featured in the magazine, along with works by a different celebrated young artist in each city. The Hong Kong edition, which coincides with Art Basel, will feature works by renowned emerging artist and photographer Petra Collins, concluding with a three-minute film curated by A Magazine Editor-in-Chief Dan Thawley.

Audemars Piguet: ‘Circadian Rhythm’ by Cheng Ran

When: 23–25 March

Watch brand Audemars Piguet is set to present a work by Chinese artist Cheng Ran in the Collectors Lounge at Art Basel Hong Kong. Entitled Circadian Rhythm, the film still forms part of Audemars Piguet’s collaboration projects, through which the watchmaker invites artists to express their unique interpretation of the Swiss Jura Mountains — home of the brand’s cultural and geographic origins.

R. Sanderson: Shadows series by Andy Warhol

Marking the IVth Series of its ‘Fusing Art with Fashion’ project, R. Sanderson is set to reveal the latest Shadow II shoe collection, which will be showcased alongside a complete portfolio of Andy Warhol’s Shadows series comprising six original and unique screenprints. The Warhol portfolio is number 6 of 10 sets ever to be produced by the revered artist, marking the first time a complete portfolio of Andy Warhol’s Shadows series has been on public display in Hong Kong.

Shanghai Tang: Floral art installation by Kirk Cheng

The Shanghai Tang Mansion will be transformed into a Suzhou-inspired garden via a large floral installation by Kirk Cheung.

When: Starting 23 March

Inspired by the care-free and bohemian philosophy conveyed in its Spring Summer 2017 collection, Shanghai Tang has invited renowned artist Kirk Cheng to transform The Shanghai Tang Mansion into a Suzhou-inspired garden via a large floral installation. Opening on Thursday, 23 March, guests will be taken through a thought-provoking and immersive journey, with floral blooms recalling the peace and tranquillity of the imperial Suzhou gardens.
