So what if it’s still summer? It’s never too early to start thinking about your fall wardrobe. To get you started, we asked two top retail experts, Natalie Kingham (Buying Director from MatchesFashion) and Lisa Aiken (Retail Fashion Director from Net-a-Porter), for their insider advice on the key trends and best picks for the coming season.
Natalie: “Oversized silhouttes are a key look for the upcoming season. The bright coats from Simone Rocha, sports jackets from Balenciaga and puffer jackets from Vetements are some of the statement pieces in this trend.”
Lisa: “Demna Gvasalia had a profound impact on the season, both with a stellar debut at Balenciaga and the seemingly unstoppable obsession we all have with Vetements; this insatiable desire for his sweatshirts show the real power of the cult buy.”
Track pants are hitting it big this season, this pair by Off-White has an elevated silhouette inspired by both street and sportswear, and it looks best when paired with a turtleneck sweatshirt. Balenciaga’s oversized bomber jacket should be worn over the sweatshirt in an off-shoulder style to reveal a little bit of the backless feature. Lisa also pointed out that designers are experimenting a lot more with interesting bag shapes. This 90s-style Loewe hobo-shape Joyce bag is a perfect example.
Get the look: Balenciaga oversized nylon bomber jacket (HK$14,180), Off-White backless cotton-jersey turtleneck sweatshirt (HK$4,488), Off-White satin-trimmed crepe wide-leg pants (HK$10,099), Loewe Joyce bag in light burgundy (Approx. HK$18,059), Marni gold-tone earrings (HK$4,100).
Natalie: “The opulent and eccentric looks that have been seen from Gucci and Miu Miu have also been a key highlight for the season. We loved this trend which we are calling ‘Lady of The Manor’. The styles from new brand Attico really define this trend—silk wrap maxi dresses with bold prints that look luxurious.”
Opt for a Gucci floral silk dress with a bow feature and pair them with accessories with a vintage design for an elevated eccentric flair; these patent loafers with blocked heels from Miu Miu are elegant yet quirky, making it a perfect match for the look. The J.W. Anderson Pierce bag is a new fashion favourite, according to Natalie. Tie a silk scarf around the handle for a sophisticated touch.

Anderson Pierce medium leather shoulder bag (HK$8,897), Gucci printed silk-twill scarf (HK$3,900).
Natalie: “Velvet is another big trend for fall. Preen really stood out with beautiful velvet dresses, that felt refreshed with a new daylight-to-twilight versatility.”
Lisa: “There is one trend that showed up everywhere: plush velvet. Ready-to-wear pieces weren’t limited to an evening dress; we loved the velvet blazer, pant suit, and bomber jacket. This is also the single biggest trend we have bought into for footwear this season, from Jimmy Choo’s strappy evening sandal to Aquazzura’s thigh-high boot. There are endless options no matter what your style may be.”
Wearing full-on velvet might be too much for some, so we recommend going for a two-piece look with a high-neck velvet top by Isabel Marant Étoile and a Valentino pleated skirt with a velvet panel. As Natalie notes, anything velvet is a key trend across shoes, so we picked a multi-strap heel and went for a seductive colour palette — suggested by Lisa — that is perfect for fall.
