It’s no news that Cara Delevingne and Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s creative director, have always had a close relationship. The model-slash-actress has been a star member of the Balmain Army for quite some time now, frequently spotted walking the runways and fronting campaigns for the brand. Their bond seems to have grown only stronger over time: Not only did Delevingne go completely naked for Balmain’s Spring 2019 campaign, she’s also been invited to join Rousteing at the design table, resulting in a small capsule collection that includes three bags embodying Delevingne’s signature badass aesthetic.
The BBag, Romeo, and Twist all come in a classic and versatile combination of black quilted leather and gold hardware — each given a confident and rebellious twist by Delevingne. There’s something for everyone too: the boxy quilted BBag with a gold chain offers a luxurious and sophisticated touch; while the Romeo with spikes and studs gives an edgy, punk appeal. The Twist, meanwhile, is a play on the canteen bag and its military background, with a circular silhouette that fits seamlessly into any wardrobe.
“It’s clear to everyone that she is the embodiment of the Balmain rebelle – the self-assured troublemaker with an invigorating, new type of rebellious spirit,” said Rousteing. “Cara reflects the strong and confident attitude of the women of my generation, women who are not content to simply push back — instead, they revel in pushing forward, while making sure to push every button along the way.”
In addition to capturing a series of captivating images, Rousteing also tapped Delevingne’s acting skills in an interactive video for the campaign. Titled ‘The Choice’, the video offers the choice for viewers to lead the story in different directions.
