A first look at the Gentle Monster x Marine Serre sunglasses

From moon print balaclavas to cape-like visors, there were some pretty bold accessories shown during Marine Serre’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection.

What stood out the most were the sunglasses, which instantly turned every model who wore them into an extra from The Matrix: mysterious, menacing and wickedly cool. Now, make the transformation yourself; those distinctive shades have just launched as part of Serre’s collaboration with Gentle Monster.

The collection, aptly dubbed ‘Visionizer’, leans into Serre’s obsession with all things sci-fi. It’s a year 2000s foresight into what the future would look like (hence, those Matrix undertones). The French fashion designer offers two distinctive styles: Visionizer I and Visionizer II.

Visionizer I is an innovative spin on visor sunglasses. Serre’s signature crescent moon logo, which has appeared on everything from bodysuits to cycling shorts, is engraved on the front of the shades’ sleek metallic frame. As is typical to visors, the lenses are huge, wrapping almost completely around the face for an aerodynamic fit. What’s unexpected are the colours they come in: fiery red, cobalt blue or mirrored silver.

For the latter, Serre imparts her cool, futuristic aesthetic on a pair of cyclist sunglasses (perfect to style with those aforementioned cycling shorts). This time, her logo appears in relief over both temples of the sunglasses’ thick acetate frame. They come in black, white and grey, and each style is contrasted with vividly hued lenses.

Every pair comes in a special Gentle Monster x Marine Serre packaging and includes a portable carrying case and a chain with a Marine Serre moon.
