Having skyrocketed to fame for a creative vision that is out of this world, Alessandro Michele has been blowing our minds since he took over as Gucci‘s creative director, bringing us an unexpected mash-up of designs that seem weirdly unrelated and utterly bizarre, yet work so implicitly well together. For Spring/Summer 2017, Michele continues to surprise us with his latest campaign, transporting us to the house’s neighbouring city of Rome, with a few unexpected travel companions.
Shot by iconic fashion photographer Glen Luchford and under the creative direction of Michele himself, the Italian designer takes inspiration from “artists, intellectuals, creatives and outsider characters” of Rome, taking us on a surreal journey featuring epic scenes where glamorously dressed models roam around the city’s famous cultural landmarks, all while accompanied by exotic animals from the wild.
Whether it’s feeding grapes to the giraffes at the Parco deli Acquedotti or swimming in the Trevi Fountain with tigers, Michele once again brings together unexpected elements and normalises their coexistence. The campaign also highlights the season’s 80’s-inspired staples as well as iconic accessories including the eclectic array of richly textured bags, shoes and even jewellery from Gucci’s latest collection, which you can all find in the video below.
