From releasing hit songs “Beat It” and “Love Never Felt So Good” to inventing the robot and the moonwalk, Michael Jackson was not only an exemplary musician and dancer, but a cultural icon who, throughout his career, continued to smash one boundary after another with his extreme talent in music and artistry.
Honouring what would have been the late performer’s 60th birthday, Hugo Boss is launching a “BOSS x Michael Jackson” capsule collection on 29 August 2018. The special collection includes three unisex t-shirts as well as a new edition of the iconic white suit Jackson wore on the cover of “Thriller” — one of the best-selling albums of all time.
Made by expert tailors at the brand’s headquarters in Germany, the re-edition white suit — limited to only 100 individually-numbered pieces available across the world — rides on the current retro hype and the 1980s revival trend, featuring an 80s-style three-button cuff, slim notch lapels, and elegant mother-of-pearl buttons inspired by the original suit’s silhouette, fabric and details. The perfectly cut trousers, meanwhile, feature double pleats at the front, a design also created in homage to the original suit. The unisex t-shirts are each printed with a different iconic moment in the pop legend’s extraordinary career.
To coincide with the capsule collection, Hugo Boss has teamed up with London’s National Portrait Gallery for a tribute exhibition titled Michael Jackson: On the Wall, which launched earlier this summer. Running through 21 October, the exhibition focuses on exploring the far-reaching influence of Jackson’s life and work in the contemporary art world, all through an extended range of visual pieces by over 40 artists around the world from Andy Warhol to Mark Flood.
All four products from Hugo Boss’s “BOSS x Michael Jackson” capsule collection will go on sale on Jackson’s birthday on 29 August 2018, both online and in selected BOSS Stores worldwide. For fans in Hong Kong, the white suit (HK$10,500) will be exclusively available at the brand’s Harbour City store; while the limited-edition t-shirts (HK$790) can be bought from both locations in Harbour City and in the Central Building store.
