Kenzo is lending a hand to WWF to hopefully help reverse the quick extinction of wild tigers.

Even those who don’t pay attention to fashion would recognise the tiger as one of Kenzo‘s signature motifs. Its powerful energy and nature has long been a key inspiration to the brand’s jungle-loving and adventurous spirit.

Sadly, this fascinating feline — an animal that plays a vital role in the health of our ecosystem — is at the brink of extinction. Within the last century, the population of wild tigers. across the world has significantly diminished to only 5 percent of its historic population, with an estimated number of just about 3,200 tigers living in the wild in 2012, and 3,900 in 2016 following global conservation efforts.

Kenzo is hoping to extend its support to preserve this unique species, initiating a partnership with WWF that will help the organisation reach the ‘TX2’ goal — set at the 2010 Tiger Summit in the presence of 13 tiger-range governments — of doubling the number of wildlife tigers by 2022 (which, coincidently, is also going to be the Year of the Tiger).

To do that, Kenzo has created a capsule collection of sweatshirts, t-shirts, and sweatshirt dresses, each made of 100 percent organic cotton and certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). For each piece sold, Kenzo will donate US$10 (approx. HK$77.50) towards the TX2 goal to help save this endangered species.

This collaboration only marks the beginning of Kenzo’s effort to initiate societal change. Other than wildlife preservation, its work with WWF is expected to continue further towards improving the sustainability of its cotton supply chain and freshwater footprint. It’s a welcoming effort that also upholds the brand MO “to be inspired by nature and to protect nature.”

The capsule collection for both women and men will start selling exclusively at Sogo from 25 September, before arriving at all Hong Kong stores from 2 October.
