The search is on.

In its continuous mission to seek out and support emerging creative talents in Hong Kong, mainland China and beyond, Lane Crawford has recently introduced the ninth edition of its Creative Call Out series, titled ‘The Makers Movement.’

The Call Out was created in 2015, with a vision to draw aspiring creative talents together to inspire and pave the way for the future of fashion and luxury in Asia. The initiative has aided the launch of 80 brands and 50 creative projects since its debut, and Lane Crawford has just opened the entry for its 2020 edition.

Previous winners: Product designer Tom Fereday, fashion designers Angel Chen and Zhi Chen

Named The Makers Movement, this year’s competition calls on all the ‘makers’ in the fields of fashion, lifestyle, and beauty, as well as content and experiential creators — such as stylists, writers and photographers — from Lane Crawford’s home cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Hong Kong.

This year, the annual physical event shall be replaced by a designated digital platform, and entrants are invited to submit a three-minute video in the first round to pitch to Lane Crawford’s internal judging panel, which is made up of buyers and marketeers from the department store.

A total of 12 brands or solo creatives will be selected as finalists, who will then face a panel of international guest judges including renowned fashion designer Alexander Wang, President of Lane Crawford Andrew Keith, Tasha Liu from fashion incubation community Labelhood, Ella Wong from Creative Artists Agency, co-founder of social shopping platform Red (also known as Xiaohongshu) Qu Fang, amongst others.

This year’s physical event shall be replaced by a designated digital platform, and, for the first time, the public is invited to join in on the voting.

For the first time ever, the public is also invited to join in on the judging process. You’ll be able to see the works of these 12 finalists showcased at an exhibition in-store and online. Everyone is welcome to cast their vote through to the end of August.

Two cash prizes will be offered to the winners, including a HK$100,000 business development grant for the Hong Kong and international winner, and CN¥100,000 for the mainland China winner. They will also be given additional support including access to a tailored mentorship program with world-renowned industry leaders. Their creations will be stocked in all Lane Crawford stores, and they will also participate in three brand creative projects with highlighted support and visibility.

If you are a budding creative or know somebody who deserves this opportunity for professional recognition, here’s your chance.
