If you thought that Virgil Abloh, the founder and designer behind Off-White, was going to take a temporary break from his cult streetwear label as he gets busy filling in some very big shoes as Kim Jones‘ successor at Louis Vuitton — you couldn’t be more wrong. Quite the contrary, the creative genius is proving himself to be pretty much unstoppable these days: not only is he about to present his Fall/Winter 2019 collections for both Off-White and Louis Vuitton at the current menswear fashion week in Paris, he’s also just introduced Off-White’s latest and largest collaborative collection to date, this time with etailer, Mr Porter.
The exclusive 44-piece capsule collection, titled ‘Modern Office’, includes 20 ready-to-wear pieces, 18 accessories, and 6 pairs of footwear, all featuring elements inspired by today’s new generation of workers, along with their workwear and workplaces. By reinterpreting such ideas into overarching themes of flux, evolution and modernity through contrasting fabrics, colours, treatments and visuals, Abloh once again explores the grey areas between black and white, creating a series of modern, hybrid creations that redefine the traditional dress codes surrounding office attire and sportswear.
Some of the highlighted pieces from the Mr Porter x Off-White capsule collection include the work trench linen coat with tonal embroidered arrow logo, all-over logo silk camp-collar shirt, ‘Class of 2013’ logo print cotton t-shirt and the low-top 3.0 leather sneakers. The full collection will be available for purchase exclusively at Mr Porter from 21 January, with prices ranging from £50 (approx. HK$506) to £1,055 (approx. HK$10,672).
