Polos with pride: Ralph Lauren celebrates diversity in a new rainbow capsule collection

This week, Hong Kong’s been in headlines around the world due to the MTR and airport banning an LGBT advertisement by Cathay Pacific — which, ironically, happened right after Taiwan became Asia’s first nation to legalise same-sex marriage. Other parts of the world, meanwhile, continues to live in modern times, making efforts to encourage and embrace diversity in all sorts of ways.

In the fashion arena, in particular, Ralph Lauren just became the latest company to celebrate individuality and inclusion. The brand debuted its first-ever campaign featuring a same-sex couple in March; now, as we approach Pride Month in June — which will mark the 50th anniversary of 1969’s Stonewall riots, which effectively launched the contemporary gay rights movement — the brand is taking one step further. It’s teamed up with the Stonewall Community Foundation to launch a special capsule collection, with proceeds going to a network of LGBTQIA+ organisations around the world.

The Pride capsule collection is unisex and comes in both adult and children sizes.

Titled ‘The Pride’, the five-piece, unisex capsule collection falls under the Polo Ralph Lauren line and includes a graphic tee, polo shirt, hoodie, tote, and baseball cap. Each item comes in both adult and children’s sizes, and features a rainbow version of Ralph Lauren’s iconic Polo Pony logo. 100% of the purchase price from the sale of each graphic tee, and 50% of the purchase price from the sale of the rest of the collection, will be donated to the Stonewall Community Foundation in support of the LGBTQIA+ community worldwide.

To raise awareness and further promote this meaningful collection, the brand invited a diverse group of individuals to star in its campaign. They include freeskier, Olympic medalist, and activist Gus Kenworthy; ballet dancer Harper Watters; writer, comedian, and actress Patti Harrison; photographer and model Jacob Bixenman and actress Josie Totah. Every member mentioned above — including photographer Cass Bird, who shot the campaign — is deeply rooted in the LGBTQIA+ community and widely celebrated for their individuality.

Ralph Lauren’s iconic polo shirt has been used to help raise millions of dollars for numerous meaningful causes for many years, whether it’s funding breast cancer research and care through the Pink Pony Fund or raising funds for global disaster relief. It’s wonderful to see the brand’s effort to make the world a better place continues. You, too, can take part in this initiative by making a purchase from The Pride capsule collection, which is now available at RalphLauren.com and Ralph Lauren’s retail store at Hong Kong Ocean Terminal.
