From wide, structured, Betty Catroux-inspired shoulders to the glow-in-the-dark pieces, Anthony Vaccarello continues to honour the legacy of Yves Saint Laurent with his ready-to-wear collection for the Fall 2019 season — and he made sure to do the same with the accessories, too. He took inspiration from specific architectural sources — the museums at 5 Avenue Marceau in Paris (the brand’s former haute couture house) and in the city of Marrakesh (the city Yves Saint Laurent fell in love with in 1966) — to create a new iteration of the Monogram Saint Laurent All Over satchel that headlines the season’s new bag collection.
First introduced in the Spring/Summer 2019 season, the Monogram Saint Laurent All Over is loved for its rigid construction, half-moon shape and vintage opening, topped with a curved edge on the inside to echo with the round corners of the bag. For the Fall/Winter 2019 season, Vaccarello continues to honour the roots and history of the house by presenting a new seasonal iteration, which features colours of beige and brown similar to those found on the façades of the museums in Paris and Marrakesh.
The YSL monogram, meanwhile, is printed in a contrasting black hue, resulting to a three-dimensional bi-colour effect. Taking it a step further, all colours have been slightly faded and roughed up for a vintage effect, and are presented in a new textured canvas fabric exclusively developed for the line. This special fabric is made from 100% cotton, and created to achieve the weft and warp texture that recalls the reliefs decorating the façade of museums in Marrakesh.
Apart from the monogram satchel, other standout offerings include the Cassandra bag, which is crafted from resistant grand de poudre leather and features sleek, graphic lines, accompanied by a trapeze shape, top handle and envelope flap. Its gusset construction and rigid base offer a slightly retro and back-to-school vibe, and also create room for the multiple internal compartments that are practically sized to fit all your daily necessities. There’s more: Instead of the usual magnetised snap fastening attached to the flap, the bag features a clip fastening install within the logo hardware. By pushing the letter ‘L’ in the monogram, the letter ‘Y’ will be release along with the flap — a design that makes it feel a little bit like a secret closure.
Two entirely new satchel bags have also been released for the Fall/Winter 2019 season: the Joan satchel and the Carré satchel. We’re a particular fan of the Joan for its combination of a half-moon silhouette, structured shape and a beautiful Y quilting that tells the name of the brand in a subtle and effortlessly elegant style. Though there is no logo hardware on this bag, it gives an even louder statement with its pared-back attitude and clean, graphic aesthetics. The Carré, on the other hand, features a supple construction and minimalistic design, topped with light bronze crafted, square-shaped hardware details, which, together, give a laidback bohemian flair.
