McQ Alexander McQueen floral lace slip dress
“Nothing makes me feel more feminine than floral and sheer lace, and this slip dress ticks both boxes. The patchwork prints and extra lace hem also give a slight grunge and gothic vibe, adding a dose of edginess for an interesting visual balance.”

MSGM acid wash denim jacket
“Tie-dye is making a big comeback this season, and this denim jacket has been treated with just that for an elevated look. This is also not just your typical jacket, as there’s also a button-up collared closure and logo print on the back, offering a more contemporary appeal.”

McQ Alexander McQueen embellished ankle boots
“Ankle boots are my go-to transitional piece for everyday comfort. These ones have a pointed square toe, silver-tone U-shaped embellishment and, more interestingly, a curtain-block heel that really sets them apart.”

McQ Alexander McQueen leather choker necklace
“A choker is the fail-safe choice for an instant boost of attitude to any outfits. I like this one for its adjustable, and therefore versatile, design. You can wear it as a choker, or turn it into a long necklace anytime.”

Acne Studios oversized logo plaque sweatshirt
“Needless to day, black never goes out of style, and an oversized sweater — especially now when most people are staying home more than ever — is always a good choice for laid-back comfort and style.”

Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh gabardine short formal pants
“The short slacks, also known as the bermuda shorts, are a perfect day-to-night piece. There are so many ways to wear them, such as with a sweatshirt if you’re going for something casual or sports-inspired, or a knitted top and heeled sandals for some understated elegance.”

McQ Alexander McQueen ‘Daisy’ slingback sandals
“It really isn’t anything ground-breaking but — honestly? — nothing speaks more to the Spring/Summer season than blooming florals. Add a spring to your step with these slingback sandals, adorned with leather-crafted daisies.”

Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh ‘Mariacarla’ wrap sweatshirt
“A little bit of detail goes a long way, and this white sweater is a great example. It comes with a tie front design, giving that little accidental peek of skin for a bit of a cheeky spin.”

IRO ‘Breeze’ jeans
“Who doesn’t love a pair of comfortable jeans, especially when they’re pretty in pink? The warmer season offers the perfect opportunity to experiment with more colours, and these ones, in my opinion, are a great place to start.”

A.P.C. mini Demi-Lune bag
“With its timeless, moon-shaped silhouette, this classic A.P.C bag will carry well throughout every season, all without breaking the bank.”

In this monthly series, the editors of Lifestyle Asia dive deep into the closets of Hong Kong’s best-dressed individuals. From statement footwear to indispensable wardrobe basics, these Style Heroes share some of their favourite pieces with us and, in the process, give glimmers of insight into what defines their personal style. This month, we speak with Angie Ng.
It’s easy to (rather inappropriately) dismiss models as walking clothes hangers and nothing more, and it can’t be any further from the truth: Hong Kong-based Malaysian model Angie Ng makes a great example.
The 5’11” beauty was scouted by a talent agency in the UK when she was only 16. Following years of modelling on the side while she studied for (and obtained) her law degree, she ended up choosing the fashion world: Travelling the world, gracing the covers and pages of top magazine titles including Elle, Marie Claire and many more, showing that you can have brains, beauty and brawn: An achievement that results from her distinct character, positive attitude and fluid movement in front of cameras, thanks to her professional training in tap and modern dance and also ballet.
While the glamour of catwalks and cameras have their places in her heart, she’s also translated the vocabulary of style beyond fashion and into her day-to-day life. As a fitness fanatic (she’s a Schwinn-certified spinning instructor, previously moonlighting at XYZ and also currently teaches boxing at Lights Out), she’s blended her love of sport with fashion, previously working with Hong Kong athleisure label Rising Lotus for an eco-friendly sportswear collection.
Career achievements aside, she has also recently championed another milestone in life: Becoming a mother. While many see postpartum weight loss as a difficult hurdle, Ng spared no time in getting back into her fitness regime, determined to keep up with a lifestyle that is both healthy, stylish and full of enthusiasm.
It was about time we caught up with Ng for a spot of style inspiration, and in this edition of Style Heroes we’ve asked for a personal recommendation of 10 fashion pieces that are perfect for this Spring/Summer season. Click ahead for her styling demonstrations of these items, shot stylishly in her own home.
