Polo shirts have long been associated with the preppy and elite, but those days are long gone — for fall, at least. Brands such as Givenchy and Thom Browne have reinvented the traditional shirt and given it a stylish and sophisticated look that will last you for many more seasons to come. Now that the weather is slowly changing and fall fashions are coming into season, keep your old-fashioned polo shirts where they belong (in your closet) and instead invest in one of these five fresher takes that will get you ready for fall.

1

Thom Browne

Thom Browne knows a thing or two about menswear, to the point where he can reinvent the preppy shirt into a modern statement piece. This long-sleeved polo (approx. HK$11,524) can be your dressy version of the traditional polo.

2

Gucci

Known for his trendsetting collections, designer Alessandro Michele updated the polo in a way only he could. This black version (HK$4,350) comes with the iconic Gucci coloured collar and is adorned with bee embroideries for a unique ensemble.

3

John Smedley

There’s nothing more boring than a plain shirt, which is why John Smedley took the polo and gave it a completely new look. This one (approx. HK$1,169) comes in a bold red stripes that complementing the burgundy colour.

4

Givenchy

Givenchy may not be the first brand you think of when you’re looking for a polo shirt but with their streetwear edge, they know how to make a shirt look cool. Their polo (HK$2,986) comes with a subtle striped print that looks sophisticated with a rock and roll appeal.

5

Orlebar Brown

The swimwear brand does some of the coolest swim shorts we’ve seen, and their polos are no exception. Though less graphic than their shorts, the collar on this grey polo (approx. HK$711) gives the shirt a stylish and fashion-forward look.
