Four months after the departure of Tod’s menswear creative director Andrea Incontri, the Italian house has finally announced the appointment of his successor, Walter Chiapponi, who will be looking after both women’s and men’s collections at Tod’s.
The 41-year-old Italian designer made his name working at senior designer roles at top luxury giants in the country from Valentino to Gucci and Miu Miu. His latest stint? Design Director at Bottega Veneta, where he spent two years working alongside the brand’s former creative director, Tomas Maier.
With such a solid background in Italian fashion, it’s no wonder why Diego Della Valle, President of Tod’s Group has such high hopes for Chiapponi, complimenting him as “a talented Italian creative who knows and is able to combine Tod’s Italian lifestyle with a touch of modernity without ever losing sight of the high quality and craftsmanship that represents the brand’s DNA.”
Chiapponi, meanwhile, also responded with great enthusiasm: “Tod’s is a brand that has always represented an excellence in the international panorama of Italian quality and style. Being able to contribute to the development of this Italian lifestyle is, for me, a challenge and a reason to be proud.”
His first creations for the house will be featured in the Fall/Winter 2020 collection, which is scheduled to hit stores in the third quarter of 2020.
