While travel bans and lockdown measures have forced the cancellation of real life fashion shows, Paris Haute Couture week for the Fall/Winter 2020 season shall continue to kick off this week as planned — albeit virtually, via its dedicated digital platform.
Starting today, the three-day schedule will see our favourite couture brands from Iris van Herpen to Dior and Chanel debuting their latest couture creations for the world to see. With everything being under this new digital-only format, we expect brands to push their creative boundaries even further with their presentations. Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing already made a head-start this weekend as he hosted a TikTok live show on a Parisian barge that involved archive pieces, accompanied by (naturally) lots of music and dance.
Christian Dior, whose show is scheduled for 8:30pm (HK Time) tonight, have once again invited us to be their live stream partner for its upcoming presentation. We’ve been given small clues of what’s to come with two video teasers, hinting that we can expect everything coming in miniature sizes — a concept inspired by French designers and artists during World War II, who came together to create dresses for dolls to keep haute couture alive.
The house has also entrusted award-winning Italian filmmaker, Matteo Garrone, with the task of producing a film that will bring these doll-size couture creations to life. So make sure you come back here tonight to witness Dior’s dreamlike universe — bringing together the magic of poetry, cinematic mastery and of course, savoir-faire.
