Fashion week for the Spring/Summer 2020 season has officially reached its final stop in Paris. As per usual, Dior will be the first heritage fashion house to present its latest creations on the runway, with the show scheduled to kick off at 2:30pm in Paris today (8:30pm HKT, 24 September).

Asian stars including Korea’s Suzy Bae, Hong Kong’s Hanna Chan and Taiwan’s Alyssa Chia have already been spotted travelling to the City of Lights, preparing to take their seats along the front row later today.

While we won’t know what the collection will look like until the show starts, we have kept a watchful eye on the house’s social media platforms for clues: three teaser videos have been recently shared to the brand’s official Instagram account, giving us a glimpse into the preparation of the show.

With Mother Nature and sustainability in mind, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri has invited botanists, gardeners, and urban landscapers collective, Coloco, to cooperate with Dior on the scenography of the upcoming runway show. These green specialists will be selecting, gathering and planting real trees at the venue, all of which will then be joining a number of long-term sustainability projects in and around Paris after the show, with the aim to reinforce wooded areas.

With trees come flowers, and herbaria has always been a field Chiuri is passionate about. Following the ‘Miss Dior’ dress reinterpreted with meadow flowers in her first Dior Haute Couture collection, the designer continues on her journey in exploring nature’s beauty and diversity, paying a visit to archives at the Museum of Natural History in Paris to learn more about the vast amount of floral species from botanist and director of Grand Herbier Marc Jeanson.

In the last video, The Life of Plants: A Metaphysics of Mixture author and philosopher, Emanuele Coccia, explained how plants are so much more than a mere decoration: They are the mediators between the sun, earth and mankind — a statement that tied together all three teaser videos, revealing the overall concept behind Dior’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection.
