Phillip Lim x Ruba Abu-Nimah Champion reverse weave hoodie
It seems like every part of the world is having its own problems, but that shouldn’t be a cause for complacency, or to dim our compassion for those in need — regardless of their location or nationality.
In the aftermath of what was regarded as the largest non-nuclear explosion in history, Beirut has been left in ruins. This is especially the case in the neighbourhood of Gemmayze, considered the soul of the Lebanese capital where art galleries, historic buildings, bars, restaurants, and families call home, and which took the majority of impact from the devastating blast.
In an effort to support the city in healing and rebuilding, New York-based fashion designer Phillip Lim and Ruba Abu-Nimah, global creative director of Revlon, have partnered up to launch the #BeirutTougherThanEver initiative.
The charitable project involves the release of two limited-edition screen-printed sweatshirts (US$140, approx. HK$1,085), from which 100 percent of net proceeds will be donated to Lebanese Red Cross and Slow Factory Foundation, directly helping the communities affected by Beirut’s tragic blast. I think that’s more than good enough reason to get one. —Cindie Chan, Style Editor
Chanel FW20 Apple Airpod case
There are endless ways to style your stark white Airpod cases these days, but perhaps none quite so elegant as one emblazoned with the iconic CCs of the house of Chanel.
The French fashion house unveiled teeny leather cases at its Cruise 2021 presentation earlier in June — with iridescent leather in purple and black modeled after the signature quilted flap bag. However, if you’re like me, you’d prefer a case custom-fit to your ‘pods, and these released as part of the FW20 collection will probably have you swooning just as much as I have.
While those aforementioned iridescent tiny handbags could possibly hold other items like loose change, emergency gum, maybe even a hair tie if you’re lucky, nothing quite says luxury as something tailor-made for that singular purpose of housing your compact audio essentials. It just looks that much sleeker when your Airpods are sitting flush in a specifically made case.
There are two iterations being released, slated to hit stores worldwide mid-September: One in classic black, and another in the eye-catching pink tweed above (HK$6,600), which I’m more partial to. Both feature a leather pull tab bearing the CC logo, and a matching leather chain rope. It also comes with a clip so you can attach it to your handbag, outfit, keychain or wherever you please. —Evelyn Lok, Managing Editor
Porter ‘Force’ two-way tote bag
Much as I’d love to imagine a scenario in which I’m buying cabin luggage that will see immediate use in the overhead compartment, I’ve confined myself (for the time being) to pieces that are useful in a more realistic range of situations. Intelligent daily carries are a category in which Porter excels: the Japanese brand has been making robust, city-ready hand baggage since 1962 after all. Lately, I keep coming back to their ‘Force’ tote in smooth navy nylon (HK$2,613). The bag’s tough, lightweight exterior contrasts beautifully with the quilted orange fabric within. All the surfaces are easy to clean, resistant to spills and up to the task of transporting your daily essentials and then some. To top it off, part of the bag’s interior is modular: you can detach it from its snap fastenings and easily use it to cart around a laptop and some other small incidentals. Now that’s what I’d call a ‘twofer’.
