As editors at Lifestyle Asia, we’re privileged to get a first look at the most exciting new luxury goods every single day, but with so many new releases rolling out all the time, it’s virtually impossible to cover every single lust-worthy find we have our eyes on. That’s what you’ll find in Weekly Obsessions: a running list of highly covetable items we’re currently mad about — because if it’s on our radar, it should definitely be on yours, too. From the must-have shoe of the moment to age-defying beauty products, scroll down to see what our editors are obsessing over this week.
Saddle bags are one of those timeless styles that keep coming back on trend, so much so that almost every brand from Chloé to Prada has one of these D-shaped bags amongst their collections. My recent favourite, however, is Loewe‘s small Gate bag (HK$15,350) — named as such for the metallic pin on the side that’s been secured with leather to make it look like the side latch of a gate. The Gate bag is skilfully handcrafted from soft grained calfskin and smooth calfskin, and is highlighted by a soft but sleek silhouette along with a dangling leather strip that’s tied and knotted in the front, allowing the front flap to be pulled right in for secure fastening. —Cindie Chan, Style Editor
I love a good spa facial treatment (who doesn’t?), but sometimes life gets in the way of getting that precious hour of relaxation and skin pampering. When the Foreo UFO (which stands for ‘Ur Future Obsession’) launched recently touting 90-second spa-level at-home facials, I was positively intrigued. The yoyo-sized contraption is a new breed of skincare tool: Paired with an app, you slip a disposable mask onto the device, which plays out tailored programmes emitting warm infrared, green and cool blue lights, as well as T-sonic pulsations onto your skin for different purposes. The ‘day’ mask (HK$86/7 pieces) gave me a truly taut, poreless radiant glow after I repeated the 90-second programme twice; while for a warm mini-massage around the cheekbones and decolletage, the UFO (HK$2,280 from Joyce Beauty) gets absolutely addictive. —Evelyn Lok, Associate Editor
The power suit, or pantsuit, has been one of the dominating trends for some time now, and it appears to be going strong through Fall 2018. If a head-to-toe suit feels too much to handle, you can always choose to style your outfit with an oversized suit blazer for a similar appeal. I’ve recently got my eyes on this double-breasted black pinstripe jacket by Alexander McQueen (HK$24,700), which comes with a slightly oversized, boxy cut, and pinstripe print that says ‘menswear classic’, but brilliantly contrasted with a nipped-in waistline for an extra boost of personality and contemporary edge. —CC
Still haven’t got on that drop earrings trend just yet? Don’t worry because I have a new recommendation for you. These sparkling earrings by Isabel Marant (HK$4,480) will undoubtedly illuminate any look with those multiple rows of shimmering crystals cascading down your ears. They are also pretty lightweight, and will dance along with you as you make your way through evening occasions. —CC
Every season, cult Japanese label Visvim releases several iterations on its popular “Skagway” design — a sneaker more than a little reminiscent of the ubiquitous Chuck Taylor high tops. Designer Hiroki Nakamura’s latest take is heritage inspired: featuring olive textile uppers that recall, to my mind, the imagery of scratchy Irish tweed. The exceptional build quality that has come to define Visvim is still front-and-centre; with technical details throughout calculated to improve all functional aspects of the wearer’s experience. A large part of this is down to comfort, with the Skagway featuring an array of orthopedic treats like an EVA phylon midsole, shock absorbing heel pads, and moisture eliminating footbed. The Skagway Hi (HK$5425) is available now through End Clothing in olive and navy colourways. —Randy Lai, Staff Writer
